         Deacon Jabez Washburn had 7 children by Judith Faunce, and 2 more children by Deborah Thomas, but only three of his children married and had families of their own, all three settling in Kingston, Massachusetts. Jabez5 Washburn (Jr.), eldest son of (200) Deacon Jabez4 Washburn, (68) Deacon John3, (45) Philip2, (28) John1 (4th); born in Kingston, MA, on 22 Apr. 1733,[1] married Mary Sherman, daughter of Samuel and Mary (Williamson) Sherman (Jr.), of Marsh­field, MA,[2] on 14 May 1756 in Marshfield.[3] She was born on either 5 Feb. or 29 Mar. 1734/5 in Marshfield,[4] a granddaughter of Samuel and Hannah Sherman,[5] and of Nathan and Mary (Sprague) Williamson, of Marshfield,[6] and they lived in Kingston, MA.

        Jabez Washburn, Jr., died intestate on 16 Feb. 1775 in Kingston, aged 41 years, 9 months, 25 days.[7] His cousin, Ebenezer Washburn, of Kingston, was granted administration of his estate on 4 Dec. 1775, with Ebenezer Thompson, of Halifax, and Hopestill Bisbee, of Roch­ester, as sureties. His inventory was taken by John Gray, Ebenezer Cobb, Jr., both of Kingston, and Benjamin White, of Marshfield, on 4 Dec. 1775, and a second inven­tory on 2 Sept. 1782 by John Gray, Esq., Robert Cooke, and Nicholas Davis, Jr., cordwainer, of Kingston. His estate was finally settled on 6 Jan. 1783, with son Elisha Washburn receiving the real estate, and he to pay his brothers and sisters for their shares, namely Bildad Washburn John Washburn, Judith Washburn, Lucy Washburn, Jabez Washburn, and Abiel Washburn.[8]

        Mary (Sherman) Washburn died a widow on 15 Feb. 1779 in Kingston, aged 44 years, 10 days,[9] and Elisha Washburn, cordwainer, of Kingston, was made guardian of Lucy, Jabez, and Abiel Wash­burn, minor children under 14 of Jabez Washburn, Jr. John Faunce, of Kings­ton, was chosen as guardian by Bildad and John Washburn, minor children of Jabez Washburn Jr. over the age of 14 years.[10]

        Jabez Washburn (Jr.) and Mary Sherman had children:

(790.) John5 Washburn, third son of (200) Deacon Jabez4 Washburn, (68) Deacon John3, (45) Philip2, (28) John1 (4th); born in Kingston, MA, on 18 July 1739,[36] married Lois Doten on 19 Feb. 1761 in Kingston.[37]

        John Washburn died at sea in June 1763, aged 23 years,[38] but no probate records were filed for his estate in Plymouth County, and Lois (Doten) Washburn remarried to Uriah5 Bartlett, son of Capt. Joseph4 and Dorothy (Wadsworth) Bartlett,[39] on 31 Jan. 1765 in Kingston.[40] He was born on 19 Nov. 1741,[41] and baptized on 16 May 1742 in Duxbury.[42] Lois (Doten) (Washburn) Bartlett died by 1768, and Uriah Bartlett remarried to Susanna6 Cooke, daughter of Nathaniel5 and Mary4 (Sampson) Cooke,[43] on 25 Aug. 1768 in Kingston.[44] She was born on 11 Feb. 1750 in Kingston.[45] In the 1790 federal census Uriah Bartlett was still living in Kingston, MA.[46]

        Uriah Bartlett died testate on 30 Apr. 1818 in Kingston, of “stoppage,”[47] his will dated 27 Apr. 1818, and probated on 20 July 1818, mentioned his wife Susanna, sons Peleg and Uriah, son Isaac, daughters Deborah, Clarissa, and Susanna, son William, and daughters Lois and Polly, and he named his wife Susanna as sole Executrix of his estate.[48] (See Appendix [A] for a full transcription of his will.) Susanna (Cooke) Bartlett died a widow on 18 Dec. 1821 in Kingston, aged 71 years.[49]

          John Washburn and Lois Doten had one daugh­ter:

        Lois Doten had one son by Uriah Bartlett:

                   ii   William6 Bartlett, born on 28 Sept. 1765 in Kingston, MA,[53] mentioned in his father’s 1818 will, but no guardianship record was found for him when his mother died, marriage not found.

 

 

(793.) Capt. Judah5 Washburn, fourth son of (200) Deacon Jabez4 Washburn, (68) Deacon John3, (45) Philip2, (28) John1 (4th); born in Kingston, MA, on 10 July 1746,[54] married Priscilla4 Sampson, daughter of Ephraim3 and Abigail (Horrel) Sampson,[55] of Middleborough, on 23 Feb. 1769 in Plympton.[56] She was born on 11 June 1748,[57] baptized on 24 July 1748 in Plymp­ton,[58] a granddaughter of Isaac2 and Lydia3 (Standish) Sampson,[59] and of Humphrey and Elizabeth (Smith) Horrel.[60]

        Capt. Judah and Priscilla Washburn settled in Kingston, MA, where he was a housewright. He served as a Corporal in Capt. Ebenezer Washburn’s Company from Kingston in the Revolutionary War in 1776, then as a Sergeant in Capt. Elijah Baker’s Company, in 1781,[61] and was presumably promoted to Captain after the war. They were living in Kingston in the 1790 federal census,[62] and he was executor of his father’s will in 1794.

        Priscilla (Sampson) Washburn died on 7 June 1813 in Kingston, aged 65 [sic] years, of “decay of body and mind,”[63] and Capt. Judah Washburn died intes­tate on 8 May 1824 in Kingston, “languished,” aged 78 years.[64] John Gray was granted adminis­tration of his insol­vent estate on 19 May 1824, his inven­tory was presented on 9 Aug. 1824, claims were filed, and his estate was finally settled on 5 Dec. 1831.[65]

          Capt. Judah Washburn and Priscilla Sampson had chil­dren:

Abigail (Ripley) Delano, daughter of Rufus and Mary (Shurtleff) Ripley,[69] and widow of Joshua Delano (3rd), of Kingston, MA,[70] on 20 Feb. 1809 in Kingston.         In the Name of God amen– I Uriah Bartlett of the Town of Kingston, County of Plymouth State of Massachusetts Yeoman being now sick & apprehensive of approaching Dissolution, as it is appointed unto all men to die, being at present blessed with the Exercise of Reason declare the following to be my last will & Testament.  viz

        First of all I give & commend my Soul to God & my Body to the Earth– And my worldly Estate I dispose of in the following Manner —

        First I give & bequeath to my beloved Wife Susanna the Improvement of all my real Estate during her Life, after all my just Debts are paid.– Also all my personal Estate, I give to the said Susanna my Wife, to be hers exclusively & entirely at her Disposal —

        Also it is my will, that after the decease of my Wife Susanna, that my Sons, Peleg & Uriah shall have the whole of my real Estate, after paying to my Son Isaac & my Daughters Deborah, Clarissa & Susanna, the sum of thirty Dollars, each, & also after their paying my Son William & my Daughters Lois & Polly, the Sum of two Dollars each —  And I do constitute my Wife Susanna sole Executrix of this my last Will & Testament — In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & Seal this twenty seventh day of April in the Year of our Lord one Thousand eight hundred & eighteen.—
