have also used some secondary information posted by other researchers on this
line, particularly for records from Shutesbury and Prescott, which have not had
their vital records published, and I have not searched for probate records for

however identification of his parents is doubtful.
[308] The
Ancestry.com World Tree file gives his parents as Joshua Shaw and Elizabeth
Dickinson, but the given birth date does not match his recorded age at death.
Palmer VRs, p. 68, has the birth of James Shaw, son of Joshuah and Elizabeth
Shaw, on 12 Mar. 1757 in Palmer, but not the marriage of Joshua Shaw and
Elizabeth Dickinson. Also in the Palmer VRs, p. 174, are the marriage
intentions of a James Shaw and Mary Brown in 1780, and the marriage intentions
of a James Shaw and Susanna McIlwain in 1785, which are much more likely those
of the son of Joshua and Elizabeth Shaw born in Palmer in 1757.
