Fifth
Generation in
Families of the Children of
Mary4 Washburn
and Thomas Perkins
Mary Washburn’s paternity is not a certainty, but it appears
that the family of Joseph and Hannah (Latham) Washburn is the only one to whom
she could belong, having eliminated her as a possible daughter of each of
Joseph’s brothers. The case if further strengthened by the frequent use of the
name Hephzibah in her family, after her purported older sister Hephzibah
Washburn. The two daughters and three sons of Mary Washburn remained in the
Bridgewater area, but a few of her grandchildren moved to Vermont, New
Hampshire, Maine, and Rhode Island, and a number of her descendants married
descendants of other branches of the Washburn family.
