         The families of several of the grandchildren of Elisabeth Washburn and Josiah Conant are uncertain at this point, as is the family of son Joseph Conant. Because Elisabeth was a daughter, her descendants will not be carried forward further than this file, with the exception of Silas White and Bethiah Washburn, Benjamin Westin and Joanna Washburn, and Betsey Hooper and Asa Washburn.

(381.) Jerusha Conant, eldest daughter of (115) Elisabeth4 Washburn, (57) Thomas3, (43) John2 (5th), (28) John1 (4th); born in Middleborough, Massachusetts Colony, on 8 Jan. 1701/2,[1] married Samuel4 Pratt (3rd), son of Samuel3 and Hannah (Miller) Pratt (Jr.), of Middleborough,[2] in ca. 1722.[3] He was born 15 May 1697 in Middleborough,[4] a grandson of Samuel2 and Mary (Barker) Pratt,[5] and a great-grandson of Phineas1 and Mary2 (Priest) Pratt.[6]

         On 18 Nov. 1745 Samuel Pratt and wife, Jerusha, of Middleborough, sold to Benjamin White, Jr., of Middleborough, land of Josiah Conant that was set off to the widow Elizabeth Conant, and 1/7th to her daughter, Jerusha, now the wife of the above named Samuel Pratt.[7]

         Samuel Pratt (3rd) died testate in 1745/6 in Middleborough. His will was dated 30 July 1745, and probated 6 Mar. 1745/6, and was witnessed by Jabez Fuller, Phineas Pratt, and Nathaniel Southworth. He mentioned his wife, Jerusha, son Nathan Pratt to be executor, son Samuel Pratt, under 21, daughter Betty Pratt, and daughter Thankful Pratt, under 21. His inventory was dated 12 Mar. 1745/6.[8] (See Appendix [A] for a full transcription of his will.)

         In Dec. 1747 Jerusha Pratt of Middleborough, widow, petitioned that since she had long supported her aged mother, Elizabeth Conant, that her three sisters, Mary Cobb, wife of John Cobb, Susanna Briant, wife of Jesse Briant, both of Middleborough, and Prudence Weston of Plimouth, widow, also contribute to the support of their mother.[9] Jerusha (Conant) Pratt died on 24 May 1767 in Middleborough.[10]

         Samuel Pratt and Jerusha Conant had children:

        1061     i   Nathan5 Pratt, born ca. 1724 in Middleborough, baptized on 18 Dec. 1726 in the First Church of Middleborough,[11] the eldest son, and executor of his father’s will, probably married Margaret4 Sampson, daughter of Isaac3 and Sarah (Barlow) Sampson (Jr.),[12] of Middleborough, on 3 Dec. 1747 in Middleborough.[13] She was born on 15 Apr. 1728 in Plympton,[14] a granddaughter of Isaac2 and Lydia3 (Standish) Sampson, of Plympton.[15] He was not a head of household in Plymouth Co., MA, in the 1790 federal census. They had children:

a. Jerusha6 Pratt, born on 10 July 1751 in Middleborough,[16] married Thomas5 Harlow, son of Lemuel4 and Joanna5 (Paddock) Harlow, of Middleborough,[17] on 1 Jan. 1772 in Middleborough.[18] He was born on 20 Mar. 1745 in Middleborough,[19] a grandson of Eleazer3 and Hannah (Delano) Harlow,[20] and of Ichabod4 and Joanna3 (Faunce) Paddock.[21] On 22 Oct. 1759 Thomas Harlow, son of Lemuel Harlow, deceased, chose his mother, Joanna Harlow, as his guardian.[22] No death or probate records were found for either of them in Plymouth County, MA, and he was not a head of household in Massachusetts in the 1790 federal census.

b. Nathan6 Pratt (Jr.), born on 9 July 1752 in Middleborough,[23] possibly married Betty Howland “2nd”, of Middleborough, on 17 Oct. 1776 in Middleborough.[24] No death or probate records were found for him in Plymouth County, and he was not a head of household in Plymouth Co., MA, in the 1790 federal census.

c. Betty Pratt, born on 21 May 1755 in Middleborough,[25] marriage not found.

d. Micah Pratt, born on 14 June 1758 in Middleborough,[26] marriage not found. He was not a head of household in Plymouth Co., MA, in the 1790 federal census.

e. Silvanus Pratt, born on 23 Feb. 1761 in Middleborough,[27] marriage not found. He was not a head of household in Plymouth Co., MA, in the 1790 federal census.

        1062    ii   Betty5 Pratt, born on 22 Feb. 1725/6 in Middleborough,[28] married Capt. Benjamin White on 15 Oct. 1745 in Middleborough.[29] He was born ca. 1717,[30] although apparently not a descendant of William White, of the “Mayflower.” They lived in Middleborough. She died on 9 July 1754 in Middleborough, aged 28 years,[31] and he remarried to Hannah Shaw, of Middleborough, on 4 Mar. 1756 in Middleborough.[32] He was a Lieutenant by 1758, and a Captain by 1761.[33] He died intestate on 12 Aug. 1774 in Middleborough, aged 57 years,[34] his widow Hannah White, and son Benjamin White, blacksmith, both of Middleborough, were granted administration of his estate on 22 Nov. 1774.[35] Betty (Pratt) White had 3 sons:

a. Samuel White, born on 23 Jan. 1746/7 in Middleborough,[36] baptized on 21 Aug. 1748 in the North Congregational Church of Middleborough,[37] died on 21 July 1766.[38]

b. Benjamin White (Jr.), born on 22 Oct. 1749 in Middleborough,[39] married Lydia Murdock, daughter of Bartlett and Lucy Murdock, of Plympton,[40] on 7 Dec. 1775 in Plympton,[41] and they lived in Carver, MA, where he was a blacksmith. She was born ca. 1753,[42] a granddaughter of John and Ruth4 (Bartlett) Murdock (Jr.)[43] He was co-administrator of his father’s estate in 1774. He was living in Carver in the 1790 federal census.[44] She died on 6 Dec. 1818 in Carver, aged 65 years,[45] and he died testate on 11 May 1821 in Carver, aged 71 years,[46] his will dated 6 Mar. 1821, and probated on 18 June 1821, mentioned his two granddaughters Betsey Shurtleff, single woman, and Lydia Hall, and he named Bartlett Murdock, of Wareham, Esqr., as executor of his estate.[47] (See Appendix [B] for a full transcription of his will.) They had a daughter:

1. Betty/Betsy White, born on 4 Jan. 1777 in Carver, MA,[48] married Lothrop Shurtleff on 22 Sept. 1796 in Carver.[49] They were living in Carver, MA, in the 1800 federal census.[50] She died on 30 June 1815 in Carver, aged 38 years, 6 months,[51] and was buried in Union Cemetery in Carver. No death or probate records were found for him in Plymouth County. They had two daughters, who were named in the 1821 will of their grandfather, Benjamin White:

a. Lydia White Shurtleff, born on 3 Apr. 1797 in Carver,[52] married 1.) Stillman Hall, of Rochester, in 1816.[53] He was born ca. 1791,[54] and they were living in Carver, MA, in the 1820 federal census.[55] He died testate on 27 Apr. 1822 in Carver, aged 30 years,[56] his will dated 29 Jan. 1822, and probated on 20 May 1822, mentioned his wife Lydia, who he named as executrix of his estate, his sister Betsey Hall, his nephews Solomon Hall, a minor, John Jefferson Hall and Jonathan Hall, and Allen Hall.[57] (See Appendix [C] for a full transcription of his will.) She remarried to 2.) Josiah Everett, of Wareham, son of Noble and Abigail (Lord) Everett,[58] in 1829.[59] He was born ca. 1788 in Wareham.[60] The will of Noble Everitt, of Wareham, dated 15 Feb. 1802, and probated on 7 Feb. 1820, mentioned his wife Abigail, and son Josiah Everitt, among others.[61] They were living in Wareham, MA, in the 1830 federal census,[62] in Middleborough, MA, in the 1840 federal census,[63] and in Wareham, MA, with Asa and Elisabeth Bodfish in the 1850 federal census,[64] and the 1855 state census,[65] where he was a laborer, and in the 1860 federal census, where he was a farmer.[66] She died on 23 July 1867 in Wareham, aged 70 years, 3 months, 19 days,[67] and he died a widower on 14 July 1881 in Wareham, aged 92 years, 1 month.[68]

b. Mary Shaw Shurtleff, born on 13 June 1800 in Carver,[69] died on 16 Dec. 1804 in Carver, aged 4 years, 6 months, 3 days.[70]

c. Betsey White Shurtleff, born on 21 Jan. 1804 in Carver,[71] married Ebenezer Dunham (3rd), son of Ebenezer and Priscilla (Morton) Dunham (Jr.),[72] on 24 Oct. 1822 in Carver.[73] He was born on 28 Oct. 1797 in Carver.[74] They were living in Carver, MA, in the 1850 federal census, where he was a farmer,[75] the 1855 state census, where he was a carpenter,[76] and the 1860,[77] and 1870 federal censuses, where he was a farmer.[78] She died on 3 June 1877 in Carver, aged 73 years, 4 months,[79] and he died on 9 Oct. 1881 in Plymouth, aged 84 years,[80] and they were both buried in Union Cemetery in Carver.

c. Silas White, born on 16 Oct. 1752 in Middleborough,[81] married (1299) Bethiah6 Washburn, daughter of (431) Jonathan5 and Judith/Judah (Wood) Washburn, of Middleborough, on 12 Nov. 1778 in Middleborough.[82] She was born ca. 1757 in Middleborough,[83] a granddaughter of (126) Capt. Benjamin4 and Bethiah (Kingman) Washburn, of Bridgewater.[84] On 25 May 1803 Silas White and Bethiah his wife, of Middleborough, along with Luther Hooper and Phebe his wife, of Bridgewater, Elijah Reed and Lucy his wife, of Middleborough, and Isaac Washburn, joiner, of Taunton, sold to their brother Salmon Washburn all their right and title to the homestead farm that their father Jonathan Washburn, late of Middleborough, died seized of except their right in the thirds now in the possession of their mother Washburn.[85] They were living in Middleborough, MA, in the 1790,[86] 1800,[87] 1810,[88] 1820,[89] and 1830 federal censuses,[90] where he was a farmer. He died testate on 9 Jan. 1835 in Middleborough, aged 82 years,[91] his will dated 9 Oct. 1832, and probated on 16 Feb. 1835, mentioned his wife Bethiah White, grandson Silas White 2d, brother Nathan White, father Benjamin White, grandson Benjamin Franklin White, brother Andrew White, grandson Charles White, brother Ebenezer White, daughter Sally Eaton, brother Benjamin White, daughter Clarissa White, son Benjamin White and his children Abigail Leach, Charles White, Laura Eaton, Benjamin Franklin White, and Silas White 2d, and son Cyrus White, deceased, and he named his son-in-law Enos Eaton as executor of his estate.[92] Bethiah (Washburn) White was living with her daughter, Clarissa White, in the household of her grandson, Silas White, in the 1850 federal census in Middleborough,[93] and she died on 2 Jan. 1851 in Middleborough, aged 94 years.[94] (Continued in Washburn Sixth Generation.)

        1063   iii   Thankfull Pratt, born on 22 May 1731 in Middleborough,[95] under 21 when her father made his will in 1745, marriage not found.

        1064   iv   Samuel Pratt (4th), born on 16 June 1736 in Middleborough,[96] baptized on 27 Oct. 1745 in the First Church of Middleborough,[97] was under 21 when his father made his will in 1745, marriage not found.

 

 

(382.) Mary Conant, second daughter of (115) Elisabeth4 Washburn, (57) Thomas3, (43) John2 (5th), (28) John1 (4th); born in Middleborough, Massachusetts Colony, on 20 Dec. 1703,[98] married John Cobb (3rd), son of John and Rachel3 (Soule) Cobb (Jr.),[99] as his second wife, on 26 Aug. 1725 in Middleborough.[100] He was born on 10 June 1689 in Middleborough,[101] a grandson of John and Martha (Nelson) Cobb,[102] and of John2 and Rebecca (Simmons) Soule,[103] and had married first to Joanna Thomas, daughter of William and Sarah (Pratt) Thomas, of Middleborough, in ca. 1713.[104]

         John Cobb (3rd) died testate on 6 July 1750 in Middleborough, aged 61 years.[105] His will was dated 9 Aug. 1746, probated on 6 Aug. 1750, and he mentioned his wife Mary, sons Gershom, John, Nathan, Gideon and Ephraim Cobb, and daughters Joanna Wood, Lidia Tomson, Mary Cobb, and Hannah Cobb.[106] (See Appendix [D] for a full transcription of his will.) Mary (Conant) Cobb died on 16 Aug. 1795 in Middleborough, aged 91 years.[107]

         Mary Conant and John Cobb had children:

        1065     i   Mary Cobb, born on 2 Aug. 1726 in Middleborough,[108] died on 30 Apr. 1727 in Middleborough, in her 9th month.[109]

        1066    ii   Nathan Cobb, born on 24 Oct. 1728 in Middleborough,[110] married Abijah Tinkham, daughter of Deacon Isaac and Abijah (Wood) Tinkham,[111] on 29 Nov. 1753 in Middleborough.[112] She was born on 21 Mar. 1727/8 in Middleborough,[113] a granddaughter of Ephraim and Esther (Wright) Tinkham (Jr.)[114] She died on 5 Feb. 1776 in Middleborough, aged 47 years,[115] and he was probably the Nathan Cobb who served as a Private in Capt. Nathaniel Wood’s Company from Middleborough in 1778 during the Revolutionary War.[116] He died on 29 Aug. 1818 in Plympton, MA, aged 89 years, 9 months, 25 days,[117] but no probate records were filed for his estate, and he was not a head of household in Plymouth Co., MA, in the 1790 federal census. They had children:

a. John Cobb, born on 7 Oct. 1754 in Middleborough,[118] died on 7 Oct. 1760 in Middleborough, aged 6 years.[119]

b. Susanna Cobb, born on 25 Oct. 1756 in Middleborough,[120] possibly married Zurishaddai Palmer, son of James and Meribah (Nye) Palmer,[121] of Middleborough, on 24 Dec. 1778 in Plympton.[122] He was born on 23 June 1754 in Middleborough.[123] He was not a head of household in Massachusetts in the 1790 federal census, and no probate records were found for him in Plymouth Co., MA.

c. Abijah Cobb, a daughter, born on 7 Aug. 1761 in Middleborough,[124] marriage not found.

d. Isaac Cobb, born on 27 Sept. 1767 in Middleborough,[125] married Betsey Bent, of Middleborough, on 24 Dec. 1789 in Middleborough.[126] He died on 9 Sept. 1831 in Middleborough, aged 70 [sic] years,[127] and she died a widow on 26 Dec. 1846 in Middleborough.[128]

        1067   iii   Mary Cobb, born on 17 Oct. 1730 in Middleborough,[129] was living in 1750 in her father’s will, marriage not found.

        1068   iv   Hannah Cobb, born on 12 May 1733 in Middleborough,[130] married Wil­liam4 Bryant (Jr.), son of William3 and Ruth (Stetson) Bryant, on 11 Apr. 1754 in Middleborough.[131] He was born on 6 Sept. 1729 in Pembroke, MA,[132] a grandson of Stephen2 and Mehitabel3 (Standish) Bryant (Jr.), of Plymouth. He died intes­tate on 27 July 1773 in Middleborough, and his widow, Hannah Bryant, was granted administration of his estate on 4 Oct. 1773.[133] She was probably one of the three Hannah Bryants living in Middleborough, MA, in the 1790 federal census. They supposedly had one daughter:

a. Hannah Bryant, born in 1758, died on 3 July 1773 in Middleborough.[134]

        1069    v   Susanna Cobb, born on 29 Apr. 1735, died on 12 Sept. 1735 in Middleborough, aged 4 months, 13 days.[135]

        1070   vi   Gideon Cobb, born ca. 1738 in Middleborough, married Mehitabel6 Warren, daughter of Benjamin5 and Jedidah (Tupper) Warren,[136] on 12 Nov. 1761 in Middleborough.[137] She was born on 15 Sept. 1743 in Middleborough,[138] a granddaughter of Samuel4 and Eleanor4 (Billington) Warren, of Middleborough.[139] He served as a Private in Capt. William Shaw’s Company from Middleborough in 1775-1777 during the Revolutionary War.[140] He died intestate on 17 July 1777 in Middleborough,[141] and his widow Mehitabel Cobb was granted administration of his estate on 3 Aug. 1778.[142] She was still living in Middleborough, MA, in the 1790 federal census,[143] and she remarried to Capt. Dominicus Hovey, as his second wife, in 1797 in Rochester.[144] He was married first to Ruth Hammond in 1760.[145] He served as a 1st Lieutenant in Capt. Oliver Allen’s Company from Rochester in the 4th Plymouth County Regiment, and then in Capt. Isaac Pope’s Company in the 3rd Regiment, from 1776 to 1779 during the Revolutionary War.[146] Dominicus Hovey died testate in 1818 in Rochester, his will dated 17 Sept. 1818, and probated on 5 Nov. 1818, mentioned his wife Mehitabel, and after her death his estate was to be divided among his children, and he named William LeBaron, merchant, as executor of his estate.[147] (See Appendix [E] for a full transcription of his will.) She was a Revolutionary War Pensioner living with her granddaughter, Lucy Tripp, in Rochester, MA, in the 1840 federal census, and she died on 18 Jan. 1841 in Rochester, aged 97 years, 3 months.[148] Gideon Cobb and Mehitabel Warren had children:

a. Lucy Cobb, born on 5 Oct. 1762 in Middleborough,[149] married Jesse Tripp, Jr., son of Jesse Tripp, of Rochester, MA, on 18 Dec. 1791 in Middleborough.[150] He was born ca. 1763,[151] and he was named as executor of his father’s estate in 1806.[152] They were living in Rochester, MA, in the 1800,[153] 1810,[154] 1820,[155] and 1830 federal censuses.[156] He died on 3 July 1836 in Rochester, aged 73 years,[157] but no probate records were filed for his estate. She was probably living with her daughter Lucy Tripp in Rochester in the 1840 federal census, and she died a widow on 25 Feb. 1848 in Rochester, aged 85 years, 4 months, 20 days,[158] and they were both buried in Cushing Cemetery in Mattapoisett, Plymouth Co., MA. They had children:

1. Warren Tripp, born on 11 Oct. 1792 in Rochester,[159] married Ann Adaline “Amity” D. Skiff, of Fairhaven, in 1820.[160] She was born on 4 May 1801.[161] They were living near his parents in Rochester, MA, in the 1830 federal census.[162] He was “found dead on the road supposed to have perished in the storm,” intestate, on 7 Feb. 1833 in Rochester, aged 40 years,[163] and his widow Amity D. Tripp declined the administration of his estate, and asked that his brother Silvanus Tripp be granted administration of his estate on 8 May 1833. The inventory of his estate, dated 20 Apr. 1833, was valued at only $88.50, not real estate, and Silvanus Tripp, the Administrator, notified the court that the estate was insolvent to pay its just debts.[164] She remarried to Samuel Yates, of Rochester, on 4 Aug. 1834 in Mattapoisett, MA.[165] He was born ca. 1800 in Newport, RI.[166] They were living next to Silvanus Tripp in Rochester in the 1850 federal census,[167] and in Mattapoisett, Rochester, Plymouth Co., MA, in the 1855 state census,[168] and the 1860 federal census,[169] where he was a painter.

2. Stillman Tripp, born on 12 Apr. 1794 in Rochester,[170] married Martha “Patty” Crandon Mendall, daughter of Timothy and Sally (Ames) Mendall, of Rochester,[171] in 1819.[172] She was born on 6 Apr. 1792 in Rochester.[173] They were living next door to his brother Warren Tripp near his parents in Rochester, MA, in the 1830 federal census,[174] and next door to his brother Silvenas Tripp in Rochester in the 1840 federal census, where he was a farmer,[175] and 1850 federal censuses, where he was a laborer.[176] He died intestate on 26 Jan. 1852 in Rochester, aged 47 years, 7 months, 17 days, of “tetanus,”[177] and was buried in Cushing Cemetery in Mattapoisett, Plymouth Co., MA. Joseph W. Church, of Rochester, was granted administration of his estate on 16 Feb. 1852, and the inventory of his estate showed that in addition to his farm he owned a part interest in a grist mill and a saw mill. Joseph W. Church, the administrator, notified the court that the real estate was insufficient for the payment of his debts, and his widow Patty Tripp received all of his personal estate for her necessaries, and her dower in the farm.[178] She was living with Nathaniel and Mary A. Parker in Mattapoisett, Rochester, Plymouth Co., MA, in the 1855 state census,[179] and with Joseph and Sarah C. Smith in Mattapoisett, MA, in the 1860 federal census.[180] She died a widow on 28 Jan. 1874 in Mattapoisett, MA, aged 84 years,[181] and was also buried in Cushing Cemetery in Mattapoisett, MA.

3. Sylvanus/Silvanus Tripp, born on 14 Apr. 1796 in Rochester,[182] married Mary Dexter, daughter of Elisha and Eunice (Bolles) Dexter,[183] in 1817.[184] She was born on 5 Oct. 1795.[185] They were living next door to his parents in Rochester, MA, in the 1830 federal census,[186] the 1840 federal census, where he was a farmer,[187] and the 1850 federal censuses, where he was a tender of mills.[188] She died on 11 Sept. 1854 in Rochester, MA, aged 57 years, 11 months, 20 days, of disease of the heart.[189] He was living in Mattapoisett, Rochester, Plymouth Co., MA, in the 1855 state census, where he was a farmer,[190] and the 1860 federal census, where he was a master farmer.[191] He died a widower, testate, on 10 Aug. 1861 in Mattapoisett, MA, aged 66 years, of “lung fever,”[192] and they were both buried in Cushing Cemetery in Mattapoisett, MA. His will, dated 2 Aug. 1861, mentioned his daughter Lucy J. Ellis, sons Handel J. Tripp, Alexander K. Tripp, Sylvanus A. Tripp, Seth D. Tripp, and Ebenezer Tripp, Clarissa D. Stevens, and his sisters Betsey and Lucy Tripp, and he named Joseph W. Church, of Rochester, as executor of his estate.[193] (See Appendix [F] for a full transcription of his will.)

4. Lucy Tripp, born on 17 Sept. 1798 in Rochester,[194] never married. She was still unmarried and living with her sister Betsey Tripp in Rochester in the 1840 federal census, where her mother and grandmother were living with them,[195] and the 1850 federal census.[196] They were living next door to her brother Silvanus Tripp in Mattapoisett, Rochester, Plymouth Co., MA, in the 1855 state census,[197] and the 1860 federal census.[198] She died on 5 May 1861 in Mattapoisett, MA, aged 62 years, 6 months, of pneumonia,[199] but no probate records were filed for her estate.

5. Betsey Tripp, born on 24 Nov. 1801 in Rochester,[200] probably never married. She was still unmarried and living with her sister Lucy Tripp in Rochester in the 1850 federal census, and in Mattapoisett in the 1855 state census, and the 1860 federal census, and she was still unmarried and living in Mattapoisett, MA, in the 1865 state census.[201] Sister Betsey Tripp was mentioned in the 1861 will of her brother Sylvanus Tripp. She died on 17 Apr. 1894 in Mattapoisetts, MA, aged 92 years, 4 months, 24 days, of “old age paraplegia.”[202]

b. Ephraim Cobb, born on 14 June 1765 in Middleborough,[203] marriage not found. He was not a head of household in Massachusetts in the 1790, 1800 or 1810 federal censuses.

c. Ansail Cobb, born on 17 Dec. 1767 in Middleborough,[204] possibly the Ansel Cobb who married Sarah Hayward in 1796.[205] He was not a head of household in Massachusetts in the 1790 or 1800 federal census, but they were living in Bridgewater, MA, in the 1810 federal census.[206]  He died intestate on 7 Apr. 1815 in Middleborough, aged 41 [sic] years,[207] and Calvin Tillson was granted administration of his estate on 12 Apr. 1815.[208] Daniel Howard Esq., Abiel Ames, Gentleman, and Asa Briggs, Hatter, all of Bridgewater, were appointed to appraise the estate of Ansel Cobb, late of Bridgewater, Cordwainer, on 12 Apr. 1815, which totaled $249.24, including his homestead valued at $200.[209]

d. Sylvanus Cobb, born on 22 Nov. 1770 in Middleborough,[210] died on 2 Oct. 1786 in Middleborough, in his 16th year, of “nervous fever.”[211]

e. Hannah Cobb, born on 15 Apr. 1774 in Middleborough,[212] supposedly died on 2 June 1776.[213]

(383.) Prudence Conant, third daughter of (115) Elisabeth4 Washburn, (57) Thomas3, (43) John2 (5th), (28) John1 (4th); born in Middleborough, Massachusetts Colony, on 3 Mar. 1707,[216] married Thomas3 Weston, of Plymouth, possibly son of Elnathan2 and Jane Weston, of Duxbury, as his second wife,[217] on 4 May 1730 in Plymouth.[218] He had married first to Mary Howland, daughter of Nathaniel and Martha (Cole) Howland,[219] on 19 Apr. 1723 in Plymouth,[220] and he was a mariner. They lived in Plymouth, MA.

         Thomas Weston died intestate in 1743. His widow, Prudence, was granted administration of his estate on 19 May 1743, with David Turner, shipwright, and Samuel Foster, Gentleman, as sureties. His inventory was taken 4 June 1743 by Samuel Foster, Josiah Carver, and David Turner.[221] Prudence (Conant) Weston died a widow, testate, on 4 Jan. 1766 in Plymouth, aged 58 years.[222] Her will was dated 26 Oct. 1765 and probated on 22 May 1766, and mentioned daughter Mary Weston, wife of William Weston, of Plymouth, three grandchildren, the children of my son Thomas Weston, deceased, and daughter Sarah Weston, alias Ball, whom she appointed as executrix. Witnesses were Edward Winslow, Esq., Edward Winslow, Jr., and Asaph Soul. Thomas Foster, Esq., and Jeremiah Holmes, yeoman, both of Plymouth, were sureties on the bond of Sarah Weston, otherwise called Sarah Ball, spinster, as executrix of the estate of Prudence Weston, of Plymouth.[223] (See Appendix [G] for a full transcription of her will.)

         Thomas Weston had a son by Mary Howland, and Prudence (Conant) Weston had one daughter by Thomas Weston, and one more daughter born almost 4 years after his death, out-of-wedlock, by an unnamed father:

        1072     i   Thomas4 Weston (Jr.), born in 1725,[224] married Isabella Campbell on 20 Dec. 1751 in Boston, lived in Boston, married, and had 3 children, as per his mother's will, of 1765. He died before 26 Oct. 1765, possibly in Boston. Isabella Weston was not a head of household in the 1790 federal census in Massachusetts, and she may have been living with the families of one of their children.

        1073    ii   Mary4 Weston, born ca. 1736 in Plymouth,[225] married Capt. William4 Weston, son of Benja­min3 and Hannah (Coomer) Weston, of Plympton,[226] on 22 Nov. 1753 in Plymouth.[227] He was born on 14 May 1732 in Plympton,[228] a grandson of Edmund2 and Rebecca (Soule) Weston (Jr.),[229] and they lived in Plymouth. He was a Captain in the Revolutionary War, and was commander of the garrison at Gurnett Point, Plymouth.[230] They were living in Plymouth, MA, in the 1790 federal census, next door to their son William Weston Jr.[231] She died on 28 July 1805 in Plymouth, aged 68 years,[232] and he died testate on 27 June 1820 in Plymouth, aged 89 [sic] years,[233] his will dated Dec. 1805, with a codicil dated 19 May 1817, and a second codicil dated 25 May 1819, and probated on 3 July 1820, mentioned his grandson Lewis Weston, son of his son William Weston, to whom he left the bulk of his estate and named as executor of his estate, son William Weston, the children of son Coomer Weston, deceased, the children of son Lewis Weston, deceased, and great-granddaughter Edna Weston, daughter of his grandson William Weston, deceased, who was added in the first codicil, and then removed as an heir in the second codicil. His inventory was appraised on 10 July 1820, and totaled $1065.11.[234] (See Appendix [H] for a full transcription of his will and codicils.) They had children,[235] order uncertain:

Lewis5 Weston, born on 22 Aug. 1754 in Plymouth,[236] married Lucy Churchill, daughter of Amaziah and Elizabeth (Sylvester) Churchill, of Plymouth,[237] on 1 Dec. 1782 in Plymouth,[238] and living in Plymouth, MA, in the 1790 federal census.[239] He died on 28 Sept. 1798 in Plymouth, aged 44 years,[240] but no probate records were filed for his estate. They had children:[241]

Benjamin6 Weston, born ca. 1783 in Plymouth,[242] married (3973) Joanna7 Washburn, daughter of (2016) Benjamin6 and Bathsheba5 (Churchill) Washburn,[243] on 10 Dec. 1807 in Plymouth.[244] She was born ca. 1786,[245] a granddaughter of (748) Lt. John5 and Lydia (Prince) Washburn (3rd), of Plymouth,[246] and of Benjamin4 and Ruth (Delano) Churchill. They were living in Plymouth in the 1810,[247] 1820,[248] 1830,[249] and 1840 federal censuses,[250] in the 1850 federal census, in the household of Samuel A. Danforth, where he was a carpenter,[251] and in the 1855 state census, where he was a house wright.[252] Benjamin Weston died testate on 25 July 1858 in Plymouth, aged 74 years, 6 months, of “consumption,”[253] his will dated 3 July 1858, and probated in Dec. 1858, mentioned his wife Joanna Weston, his son Henry Weston, his grandson Benjamin H. Weston, to whom he left a large silver spoon which belonged to his great, great, great grandfather Benjamin Weston, his three unmarried daughters, Joanna, Mary, and Bathsheba, and his other three daughters, Jeanette, wife of Warren S. Macomber, Elizabeth, wife of Nathan P. Lamson, and Catharine, wife of Isaac K. Harlow, and he named his son Henry Weston and son-in-law Nathan P. Lamson as executors of his estate.[254] Joanna (Washburn) Weston was still living in Plymouth in the 1860 federal census,[255] and she died a widow on 16 July 1866 in Plymouth, aged 79 years, 11 months, 2 days, of “paralysis.”[256] (To be continued in Washburn Generation 7.)

2. Lucy6 Weston, born in 1785 in Plymouth,[257] never married. She was a “milliner” in Plymouth, and she died of cancer on 1 Jan. 1848 in Plymouth, aged 62 years,[258] but no probate records were filed for her estate.

3. Hannah6 Weston, born ca. 1788 in Plymouth,[259] married Sylvanus Harlow, son of Jesse and Hannah (Turner) Harlow, of Plymouth,[260] on 23 Nov. 1809 in Plymouth.[261] He was born on 5 June 1786 in Plymouth.[262] She died on 1 Nov. 1836 in Plymouth, aged 48 years,[263] and he remarried to Elizabeth A. Lucas.[264] They were living in Plymouth, MA, in the 1850 federal census, where he was a carpenter.[265] She died on 4 June 1850 in Plymouth, aged 38 years, of “consumption,”[266] and he died a widower on 2 May 1863 in Plymouth, aged 76 years, 10 months, 29 days, of “hydrothorax.”[267]

4. Lewis6 Weston (Jr.), born ca. 1795 in Plymouth,[268] married Martha “Patty” Bartlett Drew, daughter of Benjamin and Sophia (Bartlett) Drew (Jr.), of Plymouth,[269] of Plymouth, on 11 Nov. 1818 in Plymouth.[270] She was born on 23 Jan. 1798 in Plymouth,[271] and they lived in Plymouth.[272] They were living in the household of her mother, Sophia Drew, in Plymouth in the 1850 federal census, where he was a carpenter,[273] and the 1855 state census, where he was a housewright,[274] and in the household of Betsey D. Freeman in Plymouth in the 1860 federal census, where he was a house carpenter.[275] He died on 21 Mar. 1874 in Boston, aged 78 years, 7 months, of “paralysis of brain” or “disease of heart, apoplexy,”[276] and she died a widow on 17 Oct. 1877 in Boston, aged 79 years, 9 months, of “apoplexy, paralysis.”[277]

c. William5 Weston (Jr.), born on 17 July 1757 in Plymouth,[278] married Mary “Molly” Churchill, daughter of Amaziah and Elizabeth (Sylvester) Churchill, of Plymouth,[279] on 26 Nov. 1778 in Plymouth.[280] She was born ca. 1759 in Plymouth.[281] They were living in Plymouth, MA, in the 1790 federal census, next door to his father,[282] and in the 1810,[283] 1820,[284] and 1830 federal censuses.[285] He died on 28 Dec. 1838 in Plymouth, aged 82 years,[286] but no probate records were filed for his estate, and Mary Weston died a widow on 7 Mar. 1843 in Plymouth, aged 83 years.[287] They had children, order uncertain:[288]

Lewis6 Weston, born in 1778 in Plymouth,[289] married Elizabeth “Betsey” Lanman, daughter of Samuel and Sarah (Holmes) (Cobb) Lanman (Jr.), of Plymouth,[290] on 4 Nov. 1798 in Plymouth.[291] They lived in Plymouth.[292] He was the principal heir and was named as executor of the estate of his grandfather, William Weston, of Plymouth, in 1820. He died intestate on 22 Jan. 1825 in Plymouth, aged 47 years,[293] and his widow Betsey Weston, of Plymouth, was granted administration of his estate on 19 Sept. 1825, with Harvey Weston and Nathaniel C. Lanman as sureties. His inventory showed that he was a housewright, and it included a chest of carpenter’s tools. Betsey was allowed $100.50 out of the personal estate for her necessaries, and she notified the court that the estate was insolvent. Joseph Bartlett Jr., Esq., Solomon Davie, Mariner, and Benjamin Drew, Gent., all of Plymouth, were appointed to set off to Betsey Weston, widow, her dower of the real estate of Lewis Weston, late of Plymouth, Housewright, for her use during her natural life, on 19 Sept. 1825.[294] She died a widow on 28 Oct. 1851 in Plymouth, aged 73 years.[295]

2. William6 Weston (3rd), born say ca. 1780 in Plymouth, probably the William Weston 3rd who married Mary “Polly” Sampson Holmes, of Plymouth, on 20 Sept. 1801 in Plymouth,[296] but he died in Feb. 1803 on the Island of Martinico, West Indies.[297] No probate records were filed for his estate in Plymouth County, and she was probably the widow Mary Weston who married Samuel Nute, of Bridgewater, on 4 Aug. 1804 in Plymouth.[298]

3. Mary6 “Polly” Weston, born in 1784 in Plymouth,[299] married Lazarus Symmes, son of Isaac and Hannah (Cobb) Symmes, of Plymouth,[300] on 7 Sept. 1802 in Plymouth.[301] He was born ca. 1781.[302] They were not found in the 1850 federal census. He died on 25 Dec. 1851 in Boston aged 70 years, of “parylitic” or “dropsy,”[303] but no probate records were filed for his estate in Plymouth County, and she died a widow on 4 Dec. 1863 in Boston, aged 79 years, 10 months, of pneumonia,[304] and they were both buried in Plymouth.

4. Elizabeth6 “Betsey” Weston, born in 1787 in Plymouth,[305] married Capt. Lewis Finney, son of William and Elizabeth (Sherman) Finney, of Plymouth,[306] on 15 Apr. 1804 in Plymouth.[307] He was lost at sea in Sept. 1818, aged 39 years,[308] and his widow Betsey Finney was granted administration of the estate of Lewis Finney, late of Plymouth, Mariner, on 21 Oct. 1822, with her brothers George Weston and Harvey Weston as sureties.[309] She was living in Plymouth in the 1820,[310] 1830,[311] and 1840 federal censuses,[312] and she was probably the Betsey Finney living in the household of Lorenzo and Nancy C. Tribble in Plymouth in the 1850 federal census,[313] and with Harrison Finney in Plymouth in the 1860 federal census.[314] She died a widow on 2 Dec. 1867 in Plymouth, aged 80 years, 2 months, 28 days, “insane.”[315]

5. Capt. George6 Weston, born ca. 1790 in Plymouth,[316] married Polly Holmes, daughter of Joseph and Mary “Polly” (Finney) Holmes (3rd), of Plymouth,[317] on 3 Oct. 1813 in Plymouth.[318] She was born ca. 1792 in MA.[319] They were living in Plymouth, MA, in the 1820,[320] 1830,[321] and 1840 federal censuses.[322] He was a mariner, and he was a surety on the bond of his sister Betsey Finney in 1822. He died on 28 Nov. 1844 in Plymouth, of “liver complaint,” aged 54 years,[323] but no probate records were filed for his estate. She was living in Plymouth with their son George F. Weston in Plymouth in the 1850 federal census,[324] and in the 1860 federal census.[325] She died a widow on 23 Oct. 1863 in Plymouth, aged 72 years, 3 months, of “general dibility.”[326]

6. Capt. Harvey6 Weston, born on ca. 25 Jan. 1792 in Plymouth,[327] married 1.) Lucy7 Harlow, daughter of Jesse6 and Hannah (Turner) Harlow,[328] on 21 Nov. 1815 in Plymouth.[329] She was born on 14 Aug. 1795 in Plymouth,[330] and died on 19 July 1818 in Plymouth, aged 22 years, 11 months, 5 days.[331] He remarried to 2.) Sarah “Sally” Churchill, daughter of Daniel and Sarah “Sally” (Collins) Churchill,[332] in 1821.[333] She was born on ca. 31 July 1800 in Plymouth.[334] He lived in Plymouth,[335] and they were living next door to his brother George Weston in Plymouth in the 1830,[336] and 1840 federal censuses.[337] He was a surety on the bond of his sister Betsey Finney in 1822, and they were still living in Plymouth, MA, in the 1850 federal census, where he was a merchant,[338] the 1855 state census, where he was a mariner,[339] the 1860 federal census, where he was a retired ship master,[340] and the 1865 state census, where he was a shipmaster.[341] He died testate on 7 July 1876 in Plymouth, aged 84 years, 5 months, 12 days, of “general dibility,”[342] his will dated 2 Jan. 1865, and probated on 9 Oct. 1876, mentioned his wife Sally C. Weston, son Harvey W. Weston, who was named as executor of his estate, son Charles H. Weston, son Samuel N. Weston, and daughter Frances D. Myrick.[343] (See Appendix [I] for a full transcription of his will.) She died a widow on 21 Oct. 1883 in Plymouth, aged 83 years, 2 months, 21 days, of “malignant disease.”[344]

7. Almira6 Weston, born ca. 1804 in Plymouth,[345] married 1.) Judson Willard Rice, of Lowell, MA, son of Joseph W. and Ruth Rice, on 3 Feb. 1829 in Plymouth.[346] He was born on 22 July 1806 in Brimfield, MA,[347] and died on 27 Oct. 1834 in Concord or Sudbury, MA.[348] She remarried to 2.) Nathaniel Cobb Lanman, son of Samuel and Sarah (Holmes) (Cobb) Lanman (Jr.), of Plymouth,[349] as his second wife, on 11 Dec. 1851 in Plymouth.[350] He was born on ca. 4 Aug. 1793 in Plymouth,[351] and had married first to Nancy Ellis Bagnall, daughter of Richard and Bethiah (West) Bagnall, of Plymouth,[352] on 2 Feb. 1817 in Plymouth.[353] They were living with the family of John C. and Elizabeth S. Barnes in Plymouth in the 1860 federal census, where he was a farmer,[354] and in Plymouth in the 1865 state census, where he was a carpenter.[355] He died on 29 Aug. 1867 in Plymouth, aged 74 years, 25 days, of “apoplexy,”[356] and she was still living in Plymouth, MA, in the 1870 federal census.[357] She died a widow on 13 Jan. 1898 in Plymouth, aged 98 years, 12 days, of bronchitis.[358]

d. Capt. Coomer5 Weston, born ca. 1762 in Plymouth,[359] married Martha “Patty” Cole, daughter of Isaac and Martha5 (Harlow) Cole,[360] on 25 Mar. 1784 in Plymouth.[361] She was born ca. 1763 in Plymouth,[362] a granddaughter of John4 and Mary (Rider) Harlow (Jr.).[363] Coomer Weston was the Sheriff of Plymouth County, and they lived in Plymouth and also had a house on Martha’s Vineyard.[364] They were living in Plymouth, MA, in the 1790 federal census.[365] He died on 10 Jan. 1796 on Martha’s Vineyard after a voyage from the West Indies, aged 33 years, and was buried there.[366] His widow Patty Weston, of Plymouth, was granted administration of the estate of Coomer Weston, late of Plymouth, mariner, on 11 Feb. 1796, and his inventory was valued at £671.2.4.[367] She was appointed as guardian of their sons Coomer, Isaac and Thomas Weston on 13 Jan. 1800.[368] She was living in Plymouth in the 1810,[369] 1820,[370] and 1830 federal censuses.[371] She died on 27 July 1841 in Plymouth, aged 78 years.[372] They had children:

Coomer6 Weston (Jr.), born on 31 Oct. 1784 in Plymouth,[373] as a minor over 14 years of age he chose his mother Patty Weston as his guardian on 13 Jan. 1800,[374] and he married Hannah6 Doten, daughter of Jabez5 and Hannah (Sylvester) Doten, of Plymouth,[375] on 16 Sept. 1804 in Plymouth.[376] She was born on 10 Nov. 1785 in Plymouth.[377] They were living in Plymouth in the 1810,[378] 1820,[379] 1830,[380] and 1840 federal censuses,[381] the 1850 federal census, where he was a horticulturalist,[382] the 1855 state census,[383] the 1860 federal census,[384] and the 1865 state census,[385] where he was a gentleman farmer. She died on 22 Mar. 1868 in Plymouth, aged 82 years, 4 months,[386] and he died intestate on 7 July 1870 in Plymouth, aged 85 years, 8 months, 7 days,[387] and their son Miles S. Weston, of Plymouth, was granted administration of his estate on 10 Oct. 1870.[388]

2. Rev. Isaac6 Weston, born on 14 Jan. 1787 in Plymouth,[389] his mother Patty Weston was appointed as his guardian on 13 Jan. 1800,[390] and he moved to Maine, and married Mary Emmons, of Portland, ME,[391] on 20 Apr. 1811 in Portland, ME.[392] She was born on 20 Mar. 1788 in ME.[393] They were living in Cumberland, Cumberland Co., ME, in the 1850 federal census, where he was a Congregational Clergyman,[394] and in the 1860 federal census, where he was a retired clergyman.[395] She died on 1 Mar. 1861, aged 72 years,[396] and he died on 25 June 1879, aged 92 years,[397] and they were both buried in Congregational Cemetery in Cumberland Center, Cumberland Co., ME.

3. Thomas Weston, born on 13 Nov. 1788 in Plymouth,[398] his mother Patty Weston was appointed as his guardian on 13 Jan. 1800,[399] and he died on 10 Dec. 1808 at St. Pierres, “Martineco,”[400] West Indies, aged 20 years.

4. Patty6 Weston, born on 23 Dec. 1791 in Plymouth,[401] married Ichabod7 Morton (3rd), son of Ichabod6 and Sarah (Churchill) Morton (Jr.),[402] on 15 Nov. 1818 in Plymouth.[403] He was born in Jan. 1790 in Plymouth,[404] a grandson of Ichabod5 and Zilpha (Thayer) Morton, of Plymouth.[405] She died by ca. 1828, and he remarried to Betsey Holbrook, daughter of Gideon and Sarah (Clark) Holbrook,[406] in ca. 1828.[407] She was born ca. Apr. 1797 in Truro, MA.[408] They were living in Plymouth in the 1830,[409] 1840,[410] and 1850 federal censuses, where he was a merchant,[411] the 1855 state census, where he was a trader,[412] and the 1860 federal census, where he was a merchant.[413] He died intestate on 10 May 1861 in Plymouth, aged 71 years, 4 months, of acute bronchitis,[414] and Nathaniel Morton, of Brooklyn, NY, was granted administration of his estate on 19 Jan. 1863.[415] The inventory of his estate was appraised by Joseph Holmes, Freeman W. Rickard, and Leonard Covington, his real estate was valued at $5560, and his personal estate totaled $3320.[416] She died a widow on 11 June 1861 in Plymouth, aged 64 years, 2 months, of “chronic disease of heart, 1 year.”[417]

5. Lydia6 Weston, born on 14 July 1794 in Plymouth,[418] married Samuel Ellis, son of Capt. Nathaniel and Jane6 “Jenne” (Bartlett) Ellis, of Plymouth,[419] on 19 Nov. 1837 in Plymouth.[420] He was born on 12 Feb. 1793 in Plymouth,[421] a grandson of Benjamin5 and Jemima5 (Holmes) Bartlett, of Plymouth.[422] He was a seaman, and he died intestate on 5 Apr. 1842 in Plymouth, aged 48 years, of “typus,”[423] and his widow Lydia Ellis was granted administration of his estate on 16 May 1842, with Coomer Weston and Francis H. Weston as sureties. His inventory was appraised on 21 May 1842, and totaled $230.81, no real estate.[424] She died a widow on 5 Sept. 1865 in Plymouth, aged 71 years, 2 months, of “dropsy.”[425]

        1074   iii   Sarah4 Weston, born on 12 Jan. 1746/7 in Plymouth,[426] supposedly married (___) Ball in ca. 1765,[427] but she was called “spinster” in 1766 when she signed the bond as executrix of her mother’s estate, and it is unclear whether she actually married a man named Ball, or if her biological father’s name was “Ball,” and she used the name Sarah Ball at times. A Sarah Ball was a head of household in Stockbridge, Berkshire Co., MA, in the 1790 federal census, with a household of 5 females,[428] but she may have been unrelated.

Joseph Conant, eldest son of (115) Elisabeth4 Washburn, (57) Thomas3, (43) John2 (5th), (28) John1 (4th); born in Middleborough, Massachusetts Colony, on 30 Aug. 1709,[429] moved to Stafford, Tolland Co., CT, and married 1.) Marcy/Mary Hail on 26 Dec. 1735 in Stafford, CT.[430] She died, however, on 6 Mar. 1735/6 in Stafford,[431] and he remarried to 2.) Thankful Gale on 17 Mar. 1737 in Norwich or Lisbon, CT.[432] He was living in Stafford, CT, on 27 Oct. 1738 when sold his share of his mother Elizabeth Conant’s dowry in Middleborough to his brother Josiah Conant, of Middleborough.[433]

         He had one daughter of Marcy Hail, and 5 more children by Thankful Gale:

James Winslow, “a seafareing resident of Plimouth,” on 7 Dec. 1732 in Middleborough.[443] He was possibly the son of James3 and Mary (Snow) Winslow, of Rochester, MA, who was born on 2 May 1709 in Rochester.[444] The will of James Winslow, of Rochester, dated 11 Feb. 1731/2, and approved for probate on 7 Nov. 1733, mentioned his son James Winslow, among others.[445] He apparently died by 1744, but no probate records were filed for his estate in Plymouth County, and she remarried to 2.) Jesse3 Bryant, son of Benjamin2 and Hannah4 (Eaton) Bryant, of Plympton,[446] on 10 Apr. 1744 in Middleborough.[447] He was born ca. 1723 in Plympton,[448] a grandson of Lt. John1 and Abigail2 (Bryant) Bryant, and of Benjamin3 and Mary3 (Coombs) Eaton (Jr.), all of Plymouth.[449] They lived in Middleborough, where he was a housewright and carpenter.[450]

         Jesse Bryant died intestate on 3 Dec. 1758 in Middleborough,[451] and his brother Micah Bryant was granted administration of his estate on 3 Apr. 1759.[452] His inventory indicated that Jesse Bryant was a carpenter,[453] and it was found insolvent.[454] Susanna (Conant) (Winslow) Bryant died a widow on 17 Apr. 1801 in Middleborough, of “lethargy,” aged 89 or 91 years.[455]

         Susanna Conant had 3 children by James Winslow, and 5 more children by Jesse Bryant, order uncertain:

        1081     i   James Winslow (Jr.), born on 6 Jan. 1733/4 in Middleborough,[456] married 1.) Rhoda Chase,[457] daughter of Isaac and Mary (Coffin) Chase,[458]  on 3 Nov. 1757 in Tisbury, Dukes Co., MA.[459] She was born on 5 May 1741 in Tisbury, MA,[460] and died on 25 Oct. 1778 in Tisbury, aged 37 years,[461] and was buried in South End Cemetery in Tisbury, Dukes Co., MA. He remarried to 2.) Elizabeth Holmes, daughter of Peleg and Abigail4 (Bradford) Holmes,[462] on 5 Aug. 1779 in Tisbury.[463] She was born on 18 Feb. 1751 in Kingston, MA,[464] a granddaughter of Ephraim3 and Elizabeth (Brewster) Bradford, of Kingston,[465] and of John3 and Mercy (Ford) Holmes, of Kingston.[466] The will of Peleg Holmes, of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, dated 12 Jan. 1795, and probated on 7 Nov. 1799, mentioned his daughter Elizabeth, wife of James Winslow of New England, among others.[467] They were living in Tisbury, Dukes Co., MA, in the 1790 federal census.[468] He died on 26 Aug. 1805 in Tisbury, aged 72 years,[469] and was also buried in South End Cemetery in Tisbury, MA. She died on 2 July 1809.[470] He had 6 children by Rhoda Chase,[471] and 8 more children by Elizabeth Holmes:

a. Susanna Winslow, born on 23 Aug. 1758 in Tisbury.[472]

b. James Winslow (3rd), born on 24 Aug. 1760 in Tisbury,[473] died in Dec. 1778 at sea in a shipwreck.[474]

c. Isaac Winslow, born on 16 June 1762 in Tisbury,[475] married 1.) Elizabeth “Betsey” West, daughter of Capt. Jerual and Deborah (Shaw) West,[476] on 26 Apr. 1795 in Tisbury.[477] She was born on 25 Feb. 1776 in Tisbury,[478] and died on 2 Mar. 1800 in Tisbury, aged 24 years, 5 days,[479] and was buried in South End Cemetery in Tisbury, MA. He remarried to 2.) Deborah Lambert/Lumbert, daughter of Moses and Sarah (Hayden) Lambert,[480]  on 20 Nov. 1800 in Chilmark, MA.[481] She was born on 15 Aug. 1774 in Chilmark.[482] They were living in Tisbury in the 1820 federal census.[483] She died on 25 Jan. 1825 in Tisbury,[484] and he was living in Tisbury in the 1830 federal census.[485] He was living with Leander L. Winslow in Tisbury in the 1850 federal census, where he was a mariner.[486] He died a widower on 19 May 1852 in Tisbury, aged 82 years.[487]

d. Peleg Winslow, born ca. 1765 in Tisbury,[488] married 1.) Susanna7 “Sukey” Dunham, daughter of Cornelius6 and Tabitha (Hancock) Dunham,[489] on 23 July 1809 in Tisbury.[490] She was born on 4 July 1768 in Tisbury,[491] and died on 22 Apr. 1813 in Tisbury.[492] He remarried to 2.) Rebecca Lambert, daughter of Samuel and Mary (Chase) Lambert,[493] in 1816.[494] She was born ca. 1790 in Tisbury.[495] He died in Apr. 1849 in Tisbury,[496] and she died a widow on 13 Feb. 1850 in Tisbury, aged 60 years.[497]

e. Newell Winslow, born ca. 1767, died young.[498]

f. Timothy Winslow, born ca. 1770, died young.[499]

g. Abigail “Nabby” Bradford Winslow, born on 17 Apr. 1780 in Tisbury,[500] married Capt. Thomas Manchester in 1801 in Tisbury.[501] He died at sea on 17 Oct. 1824, aged 50 years, 7 months, 25 days,[502] and she was living in Tisbury with the family of George B. Manchester in the 1850 federal census,[503] and with the family of Richard G. and Virginia Luce in the 1860 federal census.[504] She died a widow on 2 Jan. 1870 in Tisbury, aged 89 years, 9 months.[505]

h. James Winslow (3rd), born ca. 1783, died in Nov. 1795 in Tisbury, of “canker rash.”[506]

i. Newell Winslow, born ca. 1786, died in Nov. 1795 in Tisbury, of “canker rash.”[507]

j. Polly Winslow,born ca. 1789, died in Nov. 1795 in Tisbury, of “canker rash.”[508]

k. Zebulon Winslow, born ca. 1792, died in Nov. 1795 in Tisbury, of “canker rash.”[509]

l. (Another child), born ca. 1795, died in Nov. 1795 in Tisbury, of “canker rash.”[510]

m. George Winslow, born in 1797 in Tisbury,[511] married Elizabeth Jackson, daughter of William and Mary Jackson.[512] She was born ca. 1800 in Milltown, New Brunswick, or Calais, ME.[513] They were living in Chilmark, MA, in the 1830 federal census,[514] and in Tisbury, MA, in the 1840,[515] and 1850 federal censuses, where he was a mariner,[516] and the 1860 federal census, where he was a laborer.[517] He died on 16 Nov. 1875 in Tisbury, aged 78 years, of “paralysis,”[518] and she died a widow on 5 Feb. 1887 in Tisbury, aged 86 years, 8 months, 16 days, of pneumonia.[519]

n. Elizabeth “Betsey” Winslow, born on 21 Oct. 1801 in Tisbury,[520] married Capt. John Manter, son of Jonathan and Jane (Butler) Manter (Jr.),[521]  on 8 Oct. 1820 in Tisbury.[522] He was born on 5 Feb. 1798,[523] and died on 11 Nov. 1847 in Tisbury, aged 49 years, 9 months, 6 days.[524]

        1082    ii   Zebulon Winslow, born on 13 June 1736 in Middleborough,[525] marriage not found. He was not a head of household in Massachusetts in the 1790 federal census.

        1083   iii   Mary “Molly” Winslow, born on 26 Jan. 1738/9 in Middleborough,[526] married Joseph Bennet, of Middleborough, on 26 Feb. 1761 in Middleborough.[527] He was not a head of household in Middleborough, MA, in the 1790 federal census, and no death or probate records were found for him in Plymouth County. They had children:

a. Deborah Bennet, born on 7 Nov. 1762 in Middleborough.[528]

b. Joseph Bennet (Jr.), born on 18 Dec. 1763 in Middleborough.[529]

c. Winslow Bennet, born on 18 Feb. 1766 in Middleborough.[530]

d. Elizabeth Bennet, born on 28 June 1770 in Middleborough.[531]

        1084   iv   Jesse4 Bryant (Jr.), born ca. 1746,[533] baptized on 11 May 1746 in the First Congregational Church in Middleborough,[534] married Mercy Shaw, possibly daughter of James Shaw, on 2 June 1768 in Middleborough.[535] She was born ca. 1745,[536] and they were living in Middleborough, MA, in the 1790,[537] 1800,[538] and 1810 federal censuses.[539] He served as a Private in the Revolutionary War in Capt. William Tupper’s Company from Middleborough in 1778 and 1780.[540] Mercy (Shaw) Bryant died on 9 Jan. 1819 in Middleborough, aged 73 years,[541] and he was still living in Middleborough in the 1820 federal census.[542] Jesse Bryant (Jr.) died on 28 Oct. 1828 in Middleborough, aged 82 years,[543] but no probate records were found for him. He had children by Mercy Shaw:

a. Elizabeth5 “Betsy” Bryant, born on 24 Mar. 1770 in Middleborough,[544] married Ensign Nathaniel Leonard, of Middleborough, on 20 Mar. 1788 in Middleborough.[545] There were 3 different Nathl Leonards living in Middleborough in the 1800 federal census, and he was probably the Nathl Leonard 2d.[546] They had children in Middleborough recorded under Nathl Leonard 2d and Betsy his wife in 1788, 1792 and 1796,[547] including a son named Abraham Bryant Leonard, but he was not a head of household in Middleborough in the 1810 or 1820 federal censuses, but no death or probate records were found for him in Plymouth County.

b. Jesse5 Bryant (3rd), born on 13 Jan. 1772 in Middleborough,[548] married Jane Thomas, daughter of Israel and Abigail (Finney) Thomas (Jr.),[549] on 15 Nov. 1795 in Middleborough.[550] She was born on 4 Feb. 1774 in Middleborough,[551] a granddaughter of Israel and Phebe (Lyon) Thomas, and of Lt. Nelson and Martha (Simmons) Finney. They were living next door to his parents in Middleborough in the 1810,[552] and 1820 federal censuses,[553] next door to his sister Mercy Bryant in Middleborough in the 1830 federal census,[554] and in the 1840 federal census.[555] She died on 29 Oct. 1846 in Middleborough, aged 72 years,[556] and he died on 15 Feb. 1849 in Middleborough, aged 77 years,[557] but no probate records were filed for his estate.

c. Solomon5 Bryant, born on 28 Aug. 1774 in Middleborough,[558] married 1.) Lucinda Hackett, of Middleborough, on 29 June 1797 in Middleborough,[559] and probably 2.) Mrs. “Sukey” Worthington, of Boston, in ca. 1804.[560] He was not found in the 1810 or 1820 federal censuses, and no death or probate records were found for him in Plymouth Co., MA.

d. Mercy5 Bryant, born on 24 Feb. 1777 in Middleborough,[561] never married. She was living next door to her brother Jesse Bryant in Middleborough in the 1830 federal census,[562] and in the household of Sylvanus and Sally Hinckley in Middleborough in the 1850 federal census.[563] She died on 23 Feb. 1853 in Middleborough, aged 75 years, of “paralysis.,[564] but no probate records were filed for her estate.

e. Susanna5 Bryant, born on 17 July 1779 in Middleborough,[565] probably the Miss “Sukey” Bryant who married Benaiah Wilder, son of Capt. Nathaniel and Priscilla (Pratt) Wilder, of Middleborough,[566] on 24 May 1798 in Middleborough.[567] He was born on 15 Apr. 1774 in Middleborough.[568] They were living next door to her parents in Middleborough in the 1810 federal census.[569] She died on 1 Jan. 1818 in Middleborough, aged 39 years,[570] and he died on 5 May 1818 in Middleborough,[571] but no probate records were filed for his estate, and no guardianships were found for their children.

f. Abraham Bryant, born on 23 July 1783,[572] died on 30 Sept. 1796 in Middleborough, of “bilious cholic,” aged 13 years, 2 months, 7 days.[573]

g. Abraham Bryant, born on 22 July 1786 in Middleborough.[574] He may have been the same child as the Abraham above, but his birth year was recorded as 1786 instead of 1783.

        1085    v   Elisabeth4 “Betty” Bryant, baptized on 8 May 1748 in the First Congregational Church in Middleborough,[575] possibly married Nathaniel Hooper (Jr.), son of Nathaniel and Elisabeth (Tinkham) Hooper, of Bridgewater,[576] on 31 Mar. 1763 in Middleborough.[577] He was born on 9 Feb. 1734/5 in Bridgewater,[578] a grandson of John and Sarah (Harden[?]) Hooper, of Bridgewater.[579] They were living in Bridgewater, MA, in the 1790,[580] and 1800 federal censuses,[581] but no death or probate records were found for him in Plymouth County. They supposedly had children:[582]

a. Perez Hooper, born ca. 1763 in Bridgewater, possibly married Parnel Leach in 1788 in Bridgewater.[583] He was not a head of household in Massachusetts in the 1790, 1800, 1810 or 1820 federal censuses. He died on 2 Nov. 1842 in Bridgewater, aged 78 years, of “dropsy,”[584] but no probate records were filed for his estate.

b. Sarah Hooper, born ca. 1764 in Bridgewater, possibly one of the females in her father’s household in the 1790 federal census.

c. Zalmuna/Zalmana Hooper, born ca. 1766 in Bridgewater, married Hopestill Pool, daughter of Joseph and Rebecca (Hall) Pool,[585] on 7 Oct. 1787 in Middleborough.[586] She was born on 12 Apr. 1765 in Bridgewater.[587] He was not listed as a head of household in Massachusetts in the 1790 federal census, but they were possibly living in Pittsfield, Berkshire Co., MA, in the 1800 federal census.[588] No death record was found for him in Massachusetts.

d. Betsey Hooper, born ca. 1768 in Bridgewater, possibly married (1267) Asa6 Washburn, son of (426) Benjamin5 and Mary5 (Cushman) Washburn (Jr.),[589] in 1789 in Bridgewater.[590] He was born on 9 Oct. 1756 in Bridgewater.[591] He was not a head of household in the 1790, 1800, 1810 or 1820 federal censuses in Bridgewater. He died intestate on 10 Apr. 1840 in Titicut, MA, aged 83 years,[592] and Zephaniah Keith, of Bridgewater, a creditor of Asa Washburn, petitioned for, and was granted administration of the estate of Asa Washburn, laborer, on 4 Aug. 1840, and Cornelius Holmes, Jr., co‑signed on his bond.[593] His relationship to Asa Washburn has not been determined, but Zephaniah Keith’s wife was Susanna Hooper, daughter of Luther and (1276) Phebe5 (Washburn) Hooper.[594] (See Washburn Sixth Generation.)

e. Olive Hooper, born ca. 1770 in Bridgewater, probably one of the females in her father’s household in the 1790 federal census, marriage not found.

f. Roxanna Hooper, born ca. 1774 in Bridgewater, married Barnice6 Leach, son of (1430) Jedediah5 and Phebe5 (Keith) Leach,[595] in 1797 in Bridgewater.[596] He was born on 8 Apr. 1771 in Bridgewater.[597] They were living in Bridgewater in the 1800 federal census.[598] She died in Apr. 1807 in Bridgewater,[599] and he remarried to (3015) Olive5 Keith, daughter of (1221) William4 and (1419) Eunice5 (Leach) Keith,[600] on 29 Nov. 1810 in Bridgewater.[601] She was born ca. 1771 in MA.[602] They were living in Titicut Parish, Bridgewater, MA, in the 1820 federal census,[603] and in Bridgewater in the 1830 federal census.[604] He died on 10 Nov. 1832 in Bridgewater,[605] but no probate records were filed for his estate in Plymouth County. She was still living in Bridgewater, MA, in the 1850 federal census, with the family of Caleb Hayward,[606] but she was not found in Bridgewater in the 1855 state census or the 1860 federal census.

        1086   vi   Solomon4 Bryant, baptized on 9 Sept. 1750 in the First Congregational Church in Middleborough,[607] marriage not found. He was probably the Solomon Bryant who served as a Private in Capt. John Porter’s Company from Middleborough in the Revolutionary War in 1775.[608] He was not a head of household in Massachusetts in the 1790 federal census, and no death or probate records were found for him in Plymouth Co., MA.

        1087  vii   James Bryant, baptized on 25 Aug. 1754 in the First Congregational Church in Middleborough,[609] marriage not found. No death or probate records were found for him in Plymouth Co., MA.

In the Name of God Amen the 30th day of July 1745

I Samuel Pratt of Middleborough in the County of Plimouth in New England being under Infirmity of body but of perfect mind & money [sic] thanks be given unto God for it: Calling unto mind the Mortallity of my body & knowing that it is appointed unto all men Once to die do make & Ordain this to be my last will and testament: That is to say I Give and recomend my Soul into the Hands of God that gave it and my body I recommend to the Earth to be decently buried; and as touching such worldly Estate wherewith God hath blessed me with I Give & demise of the Same in manner following.

In primis I Give & bequeath unto my Son Nathan Pratt my house & land whereon I now dwell with all the buildings & fences thereon & my will is that my Son Nathan Pratt Shall have all my Creatures of all Sorts Saveing my Sheep both hones Cattle & Swine & my will is that my Son Nathan Pratt Shall have my Cart wheels Plows and Team tackling with my home ffurniture and all my Tools for farming worke and my will is that my Son Nathan Pratt Shall have the One half of my Meadow which I have lying on Packade Peihage [sic?] Brook my Will is that my Son Nathan Pratt Shall have the Gun which he hath allready Chosen—

Item I Give and bequeath unto my son Samuel Pratt all my other Land which I have in the Township of Middleborough with the Other half of my Meadow lying on Perchace brook together with my Other Gun & Sword; and my will is that my Loving wife Jerusha Pratt Shall have all my Indore Moveables with all Sheep for her Improvement so long as She Shall remain my widdow and to dispose of the same among my Children as she Sees Cause. and my will is that my wife Shall have my Gold hoop so long as She Remains my widdow and to dispose of the same among my Children as  She sees Cause; and my Will is that my Son Nathan Pratt shall pay unto my Son Samuel Pratt One hundred pounds in money old tenour or in Cattle & Sheep at money price & a pair of Two Year old Stears a Two Year old heifer when my Son Samuel Shall come to ye age of twenty one years, and my will is that my Son Nathan Pratt Shall pay unto my daughter Betty Pratt the Sum of Fifty pounds in money old tenour within two years after my decease.

Hayford on 12 Mar. 1745/6, and totaled £1116.5.0, including his home farm with the buildings valued at £540. Nathan Pratt, the Executor, gave his oath to the inventory on 13 May 1746.

First                        I give and bequeath to my beloved Granddaughter Betsey Shurtleff single woman so much of my household furniture as shall be equal in value to the furniture I gave to my oldest granddaughter Lydia Hall at the time of her marriage.

                                I do further give and bequeath to my said two Granddaughters Lydia Hall and Betsey Shurtleff to be equally divided between them after paying my just debts and funeral charges, all my remaining household furniture farming utensils, stock, money on hand debts due &c including all my personal Estate of what kind soever.

                                And I do further give and devise to my two Grand daughters Lydia Hall and Betsey Shurtleff, their heirs and assigns all that my land buildings, and tenements situate lying and being in Carver together with all my free-hold Estate whatsoever, lying in the County of Plymouth aforesaid, to hold to them the said Lydia Hall and Betsey Shurtleff their heirs and assigns forever in equal halves to be divided between them after my decease.

                                I do further hereby appoint Bartlett Murdock of Wareham in said County of Plymouth Esqr sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made.

        Be it remembered that I Stillman Hall of Carver in the County of Plymouth labourer being weak in body, but of perfect mind and memory blessed be Almighty God for the same–Do make and publish this my Last Will and Testament in manner and for following, ‘that is to say’–

First – I give and bequeath to my beloved Wife Lydia Hall the use, improvement or profit of all my Estate, which shall remain after my just debts and funeral charges shall be paid, to her use and benifit so long as she shall remain my Widow –

Second – I will and bequeath to my Sister Betsey Hall fifty dollars to be paid her out of my Estate after the decease or marriage of my said Widow – and Lastly as to all the rest, residue and remainder of my Estate Money, Goods, Chattels &c of what kind soever, which shall remain after the decease or marriage of my said Wife I give and bequeath to my nephew Solomon Hall minor provided the said Solomon shall live to arrive at twenty one years of age and I will that if the said Solomon Hall shall die before he arrives at twenty one years of age that the bequest, which I have made to him shall descend to his two Brothers John Jefferson Hall and Jonathan Hall in equal shares –

Thomas Hammond Esqr., William Murdock, Gent., and Ira Murdock, Gent., all of Carver, were appointed to appraise the estate of Stillman Hall, late of Carver, Labourer, on 20 May 1822. The Inventory, dated 16 Sept. 1822, totaled $820.16, including notes on hand of $757.41, but no real estate. Lydia Hall, the Executrix, gave her oath to the inventory on 16 Sept. 1822, and she notified the court that the Estate was insolvent to pay all its just debts. Lydia Hall received an allowance of $50 from the personal estate for her necessaries.

In the Name of God amen I John Cobb of Middleborough in the County of Plimouth New England Being at this present Time in helth of body and Sound and Disposeing memory and understanding blessed be God for the Same yet Calling to mind the mortality of my Body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to Dye do make and ordain this to be my Last will and Testament to Stand and remain firm and inviolable forever. Princepally and first of all I Give and recommend my Soul unto ye hands of God that gave it & my body I recomend to the Dust to be Buried in a Decent Christian Burial at the Discresian of my Executrix nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection I Shall receive the Same again. As touching Such worldly Estate as it hath Pleased God to Bless me with in this Life I do Dispose of the Same in the following manner and form.

 

Imprimis I Give and Bequeath to my True and well beloved Wife Mary one third of the profit of all my improved Lands, & Meadows & my Dwelling house During her Life allso all of my Personal Estate after my Just Debts and funeral Charges are Paid, allso all the Debts that are Due to my Estate She paying my Debts & Funeral Charges, & allso paying unto my two Sons Gersham & John the Sum of ten Shillings apiece.

Item … I Give and Bequeath to my two Sons Gersham & John Ten Shillings a Piece to be Paid unto them by my Wife and mentioned above. My Honrd Father in his Life time having Given unto my two Sd Sons Gershom & John three Twenty acre Lots of Land Which Will make them more than Equel unto my other Children ~~~

Item. I give and Bequeath to my Son Nathan Cobb two Twenty Acre Lotts being in Number the Fourteenth & Fiveteenth Lotts in the Six and twentieth men Purchase with all my Land Lying betwen the aforesaid two Lotts & the Brook, allso all my Land Lying on The Southerly Side of Sd Brook Called the Island, Reserving unto my Wife the Improvement of one Third of the Improved Lands therein according as is above mentioned. I allso Give unto my Said Son Nathan one third of my Lott of Cedar-Swamp Lying in the grait Swamp in the Twensixth mens Purchase being in Number the twelveth Lott, all the aforesaid Lands and Cedar Swamp to belong unto him his heirs & Assigns for Ever he paying the Legacys which I Shall hereafter in this my Last will order him to pay—

                                Know all men by these Presents that I Sylvanus Tripp of Mattapoisett in the County of Plymouth and State of Massachusetts being of sound disposing mind and memory do make and publish this my last Will and Testament.

                                First. I give and bequeath to my daughter Lucy J. Ellis the sum of six hundred dollars together with all my household furniture of every kind. Also an exclusive right after myself in my lot in the burying ground in Mattapoisett which is the West half of No. 14 except a berth for Lucy and Betsey Tripp my sisters.

                                2d I give and bequeath to my Son Handel J. Tripp the sum of twenty five dollars.

                                3d I give and bequeath to my Son Alexander K. Tripp the sum of four hundred dollars.

                                4th. I give and bequeath to my Son Sylvanus A. Tripp the sum of one hundred dollars.

                                5th I give and bequeath to my Son Seth D. Tripp the sum of fifty dollars

                                6th I give and bequeath to my Son Ebenezer Tripp the sum of five dollars.

                                7th I give and bequeath to my Clarissa D. Stevens the sum of five dollars.

                                8th I give and bequeath to my Sister Betsey the sum of fifty dollars.

                                9th And it is my Will that the residue of my estate after paying debts and all necessary expenses shall be paid to the above named legatees in the same proportion as the legacies are given.

                                10. I hereby appoint Joseph W. Church of Rochester in the County aforesaid sole Executor to this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all other and former Wills made by me and declaring this and this only to be my last Will and Testament.

The Inventory of the Estate of Sylvanus Tripp, late of Mattapoisett, was appraised by Jarvis Ellis, Abraham Tinkham, and Isaac D. Tinkham, but not dated, his homestead farm valued at $1150, the Parker lot at $50, and his personal estate at $168. Joseph W. Church, the Executor, gave his oath to the inventory on 6 Nov. 1861.

                                In the Name of God Amen.

I Prudence Weston of Plimouth in the county of Plimouth in New England widdow, being weak & infirm, but of sound & disposing mind & memory do make and ordain this to be my last will & testament. ~~

First of all I commend my soul to the everlasting mercy of God, that gave it, and my body to a decent funeral, humbly hoping for salvation & a glorious resurrection thro’ Jesus Christ. ~~

In the next place I order my executrix to discharge my just debts funeral charges, & the remainder of my estate I dispose of as follows viz.

1. I give to my daughter Mary Weston the wife of William Weston of Plimouth, the sum of five shillings, also one nissel gown, which with what I have already given her, is to be in full of her part of my estate.

2. I give to my three grandchildren, the children of my son Thomas Weston deceased, one shilling a piece to be paid them by my Exx.

3. I give & bequeath all the remainder of my estate both real & personal to my daughter Sarah Weston (alias Ball) together with all the money I may have by me at my decease, also all obligations & notes for money that I may have against any person whatsoever. I give the same to her, her heirs & assigns forever. And in case my said daughter Sarah should die before me, or before she arrives to the age of twentyone years, then I give all the estate given to her to be equally divided among all my grandchildren. ~~

Lastly, I nominate & appoint my said daughter Sarah Weston (alias Ball) sole executrix of this my last will & testament. – In testimony & confirmation whereof I do hereunto set my hand & seal this 26th. day of October A. The Inventory was dated 10 July 1820, and totaled $1065.11, his real estate valued at $1000. Lewis Weston, the Executor, gave his oath to the inventory on 11 July 1820.

[I] The Will of Harvey Weston of Plymouth, Plymouth County, Commonwealth of Massachusetts (1865) *

Be it known that I Harvey Weston of Plymouth in the County of Plymouth & Commonwealth of Massachusetts, being desirous of directing the disposal of the Estate which I may leave at my decease, do make, publish and declare this instrument to be my last Will & Testament in manner & form following, viz.

In the first place I give devise & bequeath to my wife Sally C. Weston the use, income & improvement of all the Estate real and personal of which I shall die seized and in which I shall have any interest whatever for and during the term of her natural life. And as it is my intention to make ample provision for the comfortable support of my wife to her entire satisfaction, I do hereby authorize & empower the Executor of this will to furnish to my said wife from time to time such portions of the principal of my estate, if the income thereof shall in her judgment be insufficient for her support according to her degree in life. And if a sale of any of my estate shall thereby become necessary, I authorize said Executor and his successor in said trust to sell & convey without any further license such portions of my real or personal estate as they may think can be disposed of with the least loss or injury to accomplish the purpose aforesaid.

Second. At the decease of my said wife I give devise & bequeath all & whatsoever of my estate both real & personal which shall then remain in manner following to wit.

One fourth part thereof to my son Harvey W. Weston his heirs & assigns forever.

One fourth part thereof to my son Charles H. Weston his heirs & assigns forever.

One fourth part thereof to my son Samuel N. Weston his heirs & assigns forever.

One fourth part thereof to my daughter Frances D. Myrick to her sole & separate use, free from the control of her husband & to her heirs and assigns forever.

And it is further my will that the amount of all notes which I may hold at my decease against either of my children whether barred by Statute or not shall be deducted from said childs share in the distribution of my estate as herein given.

   I nominate & appoint my son Harvey W. Weston to be sole Executor of this will. I revoke all former wills by me made.

   In witness whereof I have hereto set my hand & seal this second day of January in the year one thousand eight hundred & sixty five.
