Families of the Children of Gideon4 Washburn and Esther Allin

Most of the children of Gideon Washburn and Esther Allin settled originally in New Milford, Bridgewater, or Litchfield in Litchfield County, CT, and then spread out to Vermont, New York, or Ohio. The eldest daughter, Philena, and her husband moved up to Monkton in Addison County, VT, but I have not been able to identify any of her grandchildren yet. The third daughter, Lucretia, and her husband remained in New Milford, but one of her sons moved to Portage County, Ohio. The fifth daughter, Eunice, and her husband moved up to Manchester in Bennington County, VT, but once again I have not been able to identify any of her grandchildren yet. The second son, William, and his wife moved up to Middlebury in Addison County, VT, and at least two of his sons moved west to Columbus, Indiana. The two youngest daughters had a few children in New Milford, and have not yet been traced any further. This is also a work in progress, and I will add to it as new information is uncovered.

Isaac Bostwick’s Company from New Milford in the Revolutionary War.[5] They lived in New Milford, CT, but he was not a head of household in Litchfield Co., CT, in the 1790 federal census,[6] and he was probably the Asahel Hotchkiss living in Monkton, Addison Co., VT, in the 1791 federal census,[7] and the “Ahaseh Hodgkiss” living in Monkton, VT, in the 1800 federal census,[8]     but he was not a head of household in Monkton, VT, in the 1810 federal census. No death records were found for Asahel or Philena Hotchkiss.

2348    ii   Philene Hotchkiss, born on 21 Apr. 1770 in New Milford,[13] married Mijah [Moses?] Barnum on 6 Feb. 1792 in VT.[14] He may have been the Moses Barnum living near William and Asahel Hotchkiss in Monkton, Addison Co., VT, in the 1800 federal census,[15] and in the 1810 federal census,[16] but Moses Barnum was not a head of household in Monkton, VT, in the 1820 federal census.

2348a  iii   Asahel Hotchkiss (Jr.), born on 14 Oct. 1772 in New Milford, died on 28 Feb. 1788 in New Milford.[17]

2350    v   Philo Hotchkiss, born on 28 Feb. 1778 in New Milford,[22] supposedly married Ophelia Burritt, daughter of Andrew and Eunice (Weller) Burritt, in ca. 1803 in Monkton, VT.[23] She was born ca. She supposedly died in 1860 in Stockholm, NY,[31] and he supposedly died on 26 Sept. 1864 in Stockholm, NY,[32] and was buried in Union Cemetery in Buckton, St. Lawrence Co., NY.[33] They evidently had some daughters, but their names are unknown at this time.

2351   iv   Noble Hotchkiss, born on 16 Apr. 1782 in New Milford,[34] married Harriet Barnum on 6 Nov. 1808 in Monkton, VT.[35] They were also living in Monkton, Addison Co., VT, in the 1810 federal census,[36] but he was not a head of household in Monkton in the 1820 federal census, and he was probably the Noble Hotchkiss living in Olmstead, Cuyahoga Co., OH, in the 1830 federal census.[37] She supposedly died on 24 Apr. 1845 in Cuyahoga Co., OH, and was buried in Butternut Ridge Cemetery in North Olmsted, OH.[38] They probably also had children, but their names are unknown at this time.
