Families of the Children of Hepzibah4 Washburn and John Hutchinson

 

 

         Several of the grandchildren of Hepzibah Washburn and John Hutchinson settled in close proximity of one another in the area of Tunbridge and Royalton, Vermont. Grandson Daniel Hutchinson settled in Jericho, VT, granddaughter Hepsibah (Allen) Porter remained in Windham Co., CT, and grandson Asa Hutchinson lived in Salisbury, CT. This family is still unfinished, and because Hepzibah Washburn was a daughter her descendants will not be carried forward further than file.

Margaret Hutchinson, eldest daughter of (116) Hepzibah4 Washburn, (57) Thomas3, (43) John2 (5th), (28) John1 (4th); born in Lebanon, Windham Co., CT, on 18 Apr. 1710,[1] married Joshua Allen (Jr.), son of Joshua and Mary (Crowell) Allen,[2] on 11 Sept. 1740 in Lebanon, CT.[3] He was born ca. 1706.[4] She died before 1770, as per her mother’s will, and he was probably still living in Lebanon, CT, in the 1790 federal census.[5] He supposedly died on 6 Nov. 1796 in Somers, Tolland Co., CT.[6] The children of Margaret Allen, deceased, were named in the will of her mother, Hepzibah Hutchinson, in 1770.

         Margaret Hutchinson and Joshua Allen had children:

        1089     i   Margaret Allen, born on 4 Sept. 1741 in Lebanon, CT,[7] marriage not found, but was named in the will of her grandmother, Hepzibah Hutchinson, dated 28 Apr. 1770.[8]

        1090    ii   Hepsibah Allen, born on 12 Nov. 1745 in Lebanon, CT,[9] married Elkanah Porter, son of John and Abigail (Knapp[?]) Porter, of Lebanon,[10] on 27 May 1762 in Lebanon, CT.[11] He was born on 26 July 1737 in Lebanon,[12] and he was probably the “Elikm” Porter living in Lebanon, CT, in the 1790 federal census,[13] and the “Eliakim” Porter living in Lebanon in the 1800 federal census.[14] He was living in Columbia, Windham Co., CT, in the 1810 federal census.[15] She was named in the will of her grandmother, Hepzibah Hutchinson dated 28 Apr. 1770.[16] Hepsibah (Allen) Porter died in 1778,[17] and Elkanah Porter died in 1817 in Lebanon, CT. They had children:[18]

a. Levina Porter, born on 6 Apr. 1763 in Lebanon, CT.[19]

b. John Porter, born on 10 May 1764 in Lebanon, CT,[20] married Susannah Hannah Cutting, daughter of Isaac and Eleanor (Howard) Cutting, on 17 Feb. 1785 in Hebron, Tolland Co., CT.[21] She was born on 18 Sept. 1760 in Hebron, CT, and died in 1802 in Columbus, Tolland Co., CT.[22] He was possibly the John Porter who was living in Columbia, Windham Co., CT, in the 1810 federal census, near his father.[23]

Joshua Porter, born on 9 Aug. 1770 or 1774 in Lebanon, CT, supposedly married Jean Luce, daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth “Betty” (Luce) Luce, of Tisbury, Dukes Co., MA,[24] on 27 June 1793 in Conway, MA.[25] She was born on 18 May 1771 in Tisbury, MA,[26] and they moved to Ontario Co., NY. He died on 24 June 1847 in Seneca Castle, Ontario Co., NY, and she died on 7 Aug. 1848 in Seneca Castle, NY.[27]

g. Simeon Porter, born in 1776, died in 1811.

h. Stephen Porter, born on 2 Apr. 1778 or 1779, married Rebecca Wetherill in May 1801. He died on 2 Nov. 1832 in Orleans Co., NY.[28]

        1091   iii   Timothy Allen, born on 28 Sept. 1747 in Lebanon, CT,[29] probably married Mary Burnham, of Windham, CT, on 21 Nov. 1780 in Lebanon.[30] He was named in the will of his grandmother, Hepzibah Hutchinson, dated 28 Apr. 1770.[31] He was not a head of household in Lebanon, CT, in the 1790 federal census, and they were possibly living with his widowed father, but he was not a head of household in Lebanon in the 1800 federal census either. He may have been the Timothy Allen living in Ashford, Windham Co., CT, in the 1810 federal census.[32] They had children:

a. Jacob Allen, born on 19 Aug. 1781 in Lebanon, CT.[33] He may have been the Jacob Allen who was living in Tunbridge, Orange Co., VT, in the 1820 federal census.[34]

b. Harvey Allen, born on 23 Feb. 1783 in Lebanon, CT,[35] marriage not found.

c. Polly Allen, born on 16 Jan. 1785 in Lebanon, CT.[36]

d. Caroline Allen, born on 10 Dec. 1786 in Lebanon, CT,[37] marriage not found.

e. Hepsibah Allen, born on 13 May 1789 in Lebanon, CT,[38] marriage not found.

f. Ruhamah Allen, born on 6 May 1792 in Lebanon, CT,[39] probably married Abijah Curtis, her second cousin, son of Elias and (1104) Sarah (Hutchinson) Curtis, in 1817, and they lived in Tunbridge, Orange Co., VT, where he was a farmer. (See his family for their children.)

        1092   iv   Joshua Allen (3rd), born on 29 July 1750 in Lebanon, CT,[40] marriage not found, but he was named in the will of his grandmother, Hepzibah Hutchinson, dated 28 Apr. 1770.[41]

John Hutchinson (3rd), eldest son of (116) Hepzibah4 Washburn, (57) Thomas3, (43) John2 (5th), (28) John1 (4th); born in Lebanon, CT, on 17 Feb. 1711/12,[42] married Temperance Cogswell, supposedly daughter of Samuel and Ann (Mason) Cogswell,[43] on 10 Nov. 1737 in Lebanon, CT.[44] She was born ca. 1716.[45] They moved to Salisbury, Litchfield Co., CT. He was executor of his mother’s will in 1778,[46] and he died on 26 Apr. 1780 in Salisbury, CT, aged 68 years.[47] She died on 14 June 1781 in Salisbury, CT, aged 65 years.[48]

         John Hutchinson (3rd) and Temperance Cogswell had children:

        1093     i   Ann Hutchinson, born on 5 Nov. 1738 in Lebanon, CT,[49] supposedly married 1.) James Claghorn, and/or 2.) Col. Hiram Ellsworth Hutchinson on 29 Apr. 1762 in Lebanon, CT.[50] James Claghorn may have been the one born on 30 July 1739 in Kingston, MA, to James and Elizabeth (Ring) Claghorn.[51] Col. Hiram Ellsworth Hutchinson was supposedly the son of Ezra Burke and Lucy (Stephens) Hutchinson.[52] Neither James Claghorn nor Hiram Hutchinson were a head of household in Connecticut in the 1790 federal census. Ann (Hutchinson) Claghorn supposedly died on 15 Aug. 1813 in Rutland, VT.[53]

        1095   iii   John Hutchinson (4th), born on 27 May 1742 in Lebanon, CT,[55] died on 19 Oct. 1760, aged 18 years, “a soldier at the Jarman Flatts, on his return from Oswego.”[56]

        1098   vi   Thomas Hutchinson, born on 31 Mar. 1748 in Salisbury, CT,[59] supposedly died in 1775 in Salisbury.[60] He may have been the Thomas Hutchinson “Jr.” who married an Abigail (___) in ca. 1768,[61] and had 2 children born in Salisbury:

Lydia Galusha, daughter of Jacob and Lydia (Huntington) Galusha, of Norwich, New London Co., CT,[68] on 19 Oct. 1786 in Salisbury, CT.[69] She was born on 1 June 1762 in Norwich, CT,[70] and died on 11 Aug. 1802 in Salisbury, CT, aged 40 years.[71] He remarried to 2.) Mary Adam, of Salisbury, on 17 Apr. 1804 in Salisbury, CT.[72] She died, however, on 24 Oct. 1805 in Salisbury, aged 37 years,[73] and he remarried again to 3.) Hannah Martin, widow of Noah Martin, of Tyringham, CT, on 10 May 1807 in Salisbury, CT.[74] She was born ca. 1761,[75] and died on 31 July 1832 in Salisbury, CT, aged 71 years.[76] He was not a head of household in Connecticut in the 1790 federal census, but they were living in Litchfield Co., CT, in the 1800 federal census,[77] and in Salisbury, Litchfield Co., CT, in the 1810,[78] 1820,[79] and the 1830 federal censuses,[80] where he was a farmer. He died supposedly in 1843 in Salisbury, CT.[81] He had children by Lydia Galusha:

a. Horace Hutchinson, born on 3 July 1787 in Salisbury, CT,[82] marriage not found. He was not a head of household in Connecticut in the 1810 or 1820 federal censuses.

b. Olive Hutchinson, born on 27 Feb. 1789 in Salisbury,[83] married Noah Hollister, of Salisbury, on 22 Nov. 1810 in Salisbury.[84]

c. Elijah Hutchinson, born on 2 Dec. 1790 in Salisbury,[85] died on 4 Oct. 1804 in Salisbury, aged 13 years.[86]

d. Mary Hutchinson, born on 11 Oct. 1792 in Salisbury,[87] possibly the Mary Hutchinson who married Epaphras Lyman, of Andover, Ohio, on 6 Oct. 1826 in Salisbury, CT.[88]

        1102    x   Daniel Hutchinson, born on 10 Feb. 1759 in Salisbury, CT,[98] married Esther Babcock, of Canaan, CT, daughter of Elisha and Sarah (Brown) Babcock,[99] on 18 July 1782 in Canaan, CT.[100] She was born on 3 Jan. 1763 in Stonington, New London Co., CT.[101] They were probably living in Lebanon, Windham Co., CT, in the 1790 federal census,[102] but had the births of two children recorded in Salisbury, CT, before 1790, and they moved to Jericho, Chittenden Co., VT, by 1820. He was living in Jericho, VT, in the 1820 federal census, where he was a farmer,[103] and the 1830[104] and 1840 federal censuses.[105] She supposedly died in Apr. 1840,[106] and he died in 1843 in Jericho, Chittenden Co., VT.[107] They supposedly had children:[108]

c. David Hutchinson, born ca. 1787,[112] supposedly married Polly Curtis,[113] his second cousin, daughter of Elias and (1104) Sarah (Hutchinson) Curtis, in 1820 in Tunbridge, VT. She was born on 26 Aug. 1792 in Tunbridge, VT,[114] and they lived in Jericho, Chittenden Co., VT, where he was a farmer. They were living next door to his father in Jericho, VT, in the 1820,[115] 1830,[116] and the 1840 federal censuses,[117] and in the 1850 federal census.[118] They were still living in Jericho, VT, in the 1870 federal census.[119] They had children:[120]

        1103   xi   Mary Hutchinson, born on 14 Oct. 1760 in Salisbury, CT,[125] married 1.) Elisha Parmelee, son of Abraham and Mary (Stanley) Parmelee,[126] on 27 Oct. 1782 in Salisbury, CT.[127] Children not found. He was born on 22 Feb. 1755 in Goshen, CT,[128] and he attended both Yale and Harvard Colleges, and eventually graduated from Harvard, intending on continuing the study of divinity, but suffered from ill health much of his life. He died on 2 Aug. 1784 in Shenandoah Co., VA,[129] and she returned to Goshen, CT, and remarried to 2.) William Walker, Esq., of Lenox MA,[130] son of Caleb and Elizabeth (Perrin) Walker,[131] as his second wife, on 24 Mar. 1790.[132] He was born on 22 June 1751 in Rehoboth, MA,[133] and had married first to Sarah Woodruff on 31 Dec. 1777 in Farmington, CT.[134] They were living in Lenox in the 1790,[135] 1800,[136] 1810,[137] 1820,[138] and 1830 federal censuses,[139] where he was a farmer and a judge.[140] He died on 31 Oct. 1831 in Lenox, MA,[141] and she died on 10 Dec. 1838 in Lenox, MA.[142] He had three children by his first wife,[143] and at least 4 more children by Mary Hutchinson, who died young:[144]

a. Mary Walker, born and died on 10 Mar. 1792.

b. Alice Walker, born and died on 16 June 1795.

c. Caleb Walker, born on 30 Dec. 1796, died on 31 Dec. 1796.

d. George Walker, born on 6 Apr. 1801, died on 18 May 1801.

e. (Possibly) Henry Walker, born say ca. 1805, mentioned in an 1818 letter from William Walker to his son William Perrin Walker,[145] but he was not found in the 1840 or 1850 federal census in Berkshire Co., MA.

 

 

(390.) Dr. Timothy Hutchinson, youngest son of (116) Hepzibah4 Washburn, (57) Thomas3, (43) John2 (5th), (28) John1 (4th); born in Lebanon, CT, supposedly on 27 Apr. 1718,[146] married Mercy4 Sampson,[147] daughter of David3 and Mary (Chaffin) Sampson,[148] of Duxbury, MA, on 17 Oct. 1749 in Lebanon, CT.[149] She was a granddaughter of Caleb2 and Mercy3 (Standish) Samson,[150] and a great-granddaughter of Henry1 Samson, who came to Plymouth Colony in 1620 aboard the “Mayflower.”[151] The will of David Sampson, of Duxbury, dated 26 Mar. 1767, mentioned, among others, a daughter Mercy Hutchinson, wife of Timothy Hutchinson.[152]

         Timothy Hutchinson was a physician in Lebanon, CT, and he died supposedly on 29 July 1758 in Columbus, Tolland Co., CT.[153]

         Timothy Hutchinson and Mercy Sampson had children:

        1104     i   Sarah Hutchinson, born on 9 Nov. 1750 in Lebanon, CT,[154] married Elias Curtice/Curtis, son of Simeon and Sarah (Hutchinson) Curtice,[155] in ca. 1775,[156] probably in Lebanon, CT. He was born on 1 June 1748 in Lebanon, CT,[157] a grandson of Eleazer and Jemima (Wright) Hutchinson,[158] and served in the Revolutionary War.[159] They moved first to Norwich, CT, then to Tunbridge, Orange Co., VT, in ca. 1776, with his Hutchinson brothers-in-law, where they established the first permanent settlement in town.[160] At one point they moved briefly across the county border to Royalton, VT, then back to Tunbridge.[161] They were living in Tunbridge on the morning of 16 Oct. 1780, when raiding Indians attacked the settlement, killing several of the inhabitants, including some of the children, and holding hostage Elias Curtis, his wife and their two young sons, and his brothers-in-law John and Abijah Hutchinson.[162] The three men were taken to Canada by the Indians for a year, while Sarah and the two boys were apparently released in town.[163] In 1782 Elias Curtis was approved by the proprietors of Tunbridge to build a sawmill in town,[164] and he was Clerk of the Congregational Church in Tunbridge.[165] In 1791 Elias Curtis was on the Orange County Commission representing Tunbridge in the adoption of the U.S. Constitution.[166] They were living in Tunbridge, Orange Co., VT, in the 1791,[167] 1800,[168] and 1820 federal censuses,[169] where he was a farmer. He supposedly died on 16 Oct. 1830, and she supposedly died in 1848.[170] They had children:

a. Elias Curtis (Jr.), born on 4 July 1776, probably in Norwich, CT, married 1.) Abigail Clements, daughter of William and Mary Clements,[171] on 8 Apr. 1798 in Tunbridge, VT.[172] She was born on 24 Oct. 1778, and died on 4 Sept. 1816.[173] He remarried to 2.) Anna (___).[174] He supposedly died in 1830,[175] but according to the 1840 federal census, he appears to have been still alive in Tunbridge, VT. He was living in Tunbridge, Orange Co., VT, in the 1800,[176] 1820,[177] 1830,[178] and 1840 federal censuses,[179] where he was a farmer. They had children:[180]

            1. John Phelps Curtis, born on 9 Feb. 1799 in Tunbridge, VT.

            2. Sarah Curtis, a twin, born on 25 Mar. 1801 in Tunbridge.

Abijah Curtis, born on 11 Mar. 1781, probably in Royalton, VT,[182] married Ruhamah Allen, probably his second cousin, daughter of (1091) Timothy and Mary (Burnham) Allen, in 1817.[183] She was born on 6 May 1792 in Lebanon, CT.[184] They were living in Tunbridge, Orange Co., VT, in the 1820,[185] and 1830 federal censuses,[186] where he was a farmer. He supposedly died in 1847 in Jefferson, WI,[187] and Ruhamah supposedly returned to Vermont and remarried to a “former lover.”[188] They had children:[189]

2. Elias Curtis, born ca. 1820 in Royalton, VT. He was probably living in Jefferson, WI, in the 1850 federal census.[190]

d. Sarah Curtis, born on 17 Aug. 1785 in Royalton, VT,[191] married Stephen Baker on 1 Jan. 1804.[192] He was born on 21 May 1778.[193] She died on 16 Mar. 1826,[194] presumably in Tunbridge, VT, and he died on 24 Dec. 1838.[195] They were living in Tunbridge, VT, in the 1820,[196] and 1830 federal censuses,[197] where he was a farmer. They had children:[198]

1. Lucy Curtis Baker, born on 14 June 1805, died on 12 July 1834.

2. Chester Baker, born on 9 Aug. 1807, died on 29 Aug. 1872. He lived in Chelsea, VT.

3. Louisa Marie Baker, born on 6 Apr. 1810, died on 24 Apr. 1883.

4. Charles Baker, born on 21 Mar. 1812, died on 21 Oct. 1824.

5. Mary Baker, born on 4 June 1815, died on 1 July 1817.

6. Elias Curtis Baker, born on 9 Aug. 1817, died on 18 May 1891.

7. Calvin Porter Baker, born on 11 Aug. 1819, died on 19 Mar. 1894. He lived in Chelsea, VT.

8. Mary Baker, born on 6 Mar. 1826, married Joseph Whitney, and lived in Wells River, VT.

e. Lucy Curtis, born on 24 Feb. 1788 in Tunbridge, VT,[199] married Peter Sanborn.[200] They were living in Tunbridge, VT, in the 1820 federal census, where he was in manufacturing.[201]

f. Polly Curtis, born on 26 Aug. 1792 in Tunbridge, VT,[202] married David Hutchinson, supposedly her second cousin, son of (1102) Daniel and Esther (Babcock) Hutchinson, in 1820 in Tunbridge, VT. He was born ca. 1787 in VT,[203] and they lived in Jericho, Chittenden Co., VT, where he was a farmer. (See his family for their children.)

        1105    ii   John Hutchinson, born in Oct. 1751 in Lebanon, CT,[204] moved to Tunbridge, Orange Co., VT, with his brother-in-law, Elias Curtis, and his brothers Hezekiah and Abijah Hutchinson in ca. 1776.[205] He supposedly served in the Revolutionary War, presumably from Vermont, in Boston, and fought in the Battle of Bunker Hill.[206] He and his brother Abijah Hutchinson were attacked by raiding Indians in Tunbridge on the early morning on 16 Oct. 1780, taken hostage, and carried to Canada for a year.[207] He married Hannah Parkhurst, daughter of Joseph and Judith (Haynes) Parkhurst, on 3 Nov. 1779 in Royalton, Windsor Co., VT,[208] and they moved to Royalton, VT, upon his return from captivity. She was born supposedly on 14 Mar. 1748, and died on 23 Aug. 1812 in Royalton, VT.[209] He probably remarried. John Hutchinson was living in Royalton, VT, in the 1810,[210] and 1820 federal censuses.[211] They may have been living with the family of their son-in-law, John Bliss, in Royalton in the 1830 federal census. He supposedly died on 21 Oct. 1847 in Royalton, VT.[212] They had 2 children:

a. Rebecca Hutchinson, born on 14 Aug. 1779 in Tunbridge, VT,[213] married John Bliss on 11 Nov. 1802 in Royalton, VT.[214] She died on 19 Aug. 1831 in Royalton, VT.[215] They were living next door to her parents in Royalton, VT, in the 1810,[216] and 1820 federal censuses,[217] where he was a farmer, and in Royalton in the 1830 federal census.[218]

b. Sally Hutchinson, born on 3 Mar. 1787 in Tunbridge, VT,[219] was probably still unmarried in 1810.

        1106   iii   Deacon Hezekiah Hutchinson, born on 6 Oct. 1752 in Lebanon, CT,[220] named in the will of his grandmother, Hepzibah Hutchinson, dated 28 Apr. 1770,[221] married Phebe Farnum, daughter of Bezaleel and Phebe (Kirtland) Farnum, of Killingworth and Salisbury, CT,[222] on 4 Jan. 1776 in Salisbury, CT,[223] and they moved to Tunbridge, Orange Co., VT, in ca. 1776, with his brother-in-law Elias Curtis, and brothers John and Abijah Hutchinson, where Hezekiah is credited with having sown the first wheat ever sowed in town.[224] She was born on 19 Oct. 1752 in Killingworth, CT,[225] and died supposedly on 26 Nov. 1819 in Tunbridge, VT.[226] Hezekiah Hutchinson and Solomon Cushman are mentioned in regards to the 16 Oct. 1780 Indian raid on the town of Tunbridge, VT. According to Abbie Maria Hemenway, they left Tunbridge for Connecticut on 14 Oct. 1780 to move their families up to Vermont, when the Indians attacked the settlers in town just before dawn on the 16th, thus escaping the destruction and murder.[227] Hezekiah and his family returned to Tunbridge by 1786,[228] and he helped organize the first Congregational Church in Tunbridge, where he was a deacon.[229] Hezekiah Hutchinson was living in Orange Co., VT, in the 1791,[230] 1800,[231] 1810,[232] 1820,[233] and 1830 federal censuses,[234] and was living with his son, Amos Hutchinson, in Tunbridge in the 1850 federal census. He died on 20 Aug. 1851 in Tunbridge, VT,[235] aged 98 years. They had children:[236]

a. Timothy Hutchinson, born on 29 Apr. 1777 in Salisbury, CT,[237] married Betsy Lasell.[238] He was a head of household in Tunbridge, VT, in the 1810[239] and 1820 federal censuses, where he was a farmer,[240] and he supposedly died in 1825 in Tunbridge, VT.[241] She supposedly died in 1824.[242]

b. Polly Hutchinson, born on 1 Nov. 1778 in Salisbury, CT,[243] married Caleb Swan on 2 Nov. 1796 in Tunbridge, VT.[244] He was born ca. 1768 in MA.[245] They were living in Tunbridge, VT, in the 1800,[246] 1820,[247] and 1830 federal censuses,[248] where he was a farmer. She died by 1850, and he was still living in Tunbridge, VT, in the 1850 federal census.[249]

c. Olive Hutchinson, born on 28 May 1781 in Salisbury, CT,[250] presumably died young.

d. Amos Hutchinson, born on 24 Dec. 1782 in Salisbury, CT,[251] married Jerusha Rix on 28 May 1801 in Royalton, VT.[252] She was born ca. 1781 in VT.[253] He was a head of household in Tunbridge, VT, in the 1820 federal census, living next door to his father, where he was a farmer,[254] and in the 1830 federal census,[255] and was still living in Tunbridge, VT, in the 1850 federal census, where he was a farmer.[256] She supposedly died on 10 Oct. 1860 in Tunbridge, VT, and he supposedly died on 21 Dec. 1861 in Tunbridge, VT.[257]

e. Phebe Hutchinson, born on 16 Nov. 1785 in Salisbury, CT,[258] married Benjamin7 Holmes Cushman, son of Sgt. Solomon6 and Sarah (Curtice) Cushman (Jr.), on 3 Dec. 1807 in Tunbridge, VT.[259] He was born on 26 Sept. 1778 in Norwich, VT,[260] a grandson of Solomon5 and Ruth Cushman, of Plympton, MA, and Hebron, CT,[261] and of Simeon and Sarah (Hutchinson) Curtice.[262] They were living in Clarendon, Rutland Co., VT, in the 1810 federal census.[263] She died on 29 Sept. 1843 in Tunbridge, aged 58 years, 10 months, 18 days,[264] and he remarried to Phebe Swan, daughter of Caleb and Phebe (Hutchinson) Swan, on 5 Dec. 1844 in Tunbridge.[265] He died on 25 Aug. 1870 I Tunbridge, aged 91 years, 11 months.[266]

f. Henry Harvey Hutchinson, born on 26 Mar. 1788 in Tunbridge, VT,[267] married 1.) Elizabeth (___), who died on 11 Feb. 1813 in Tunbridge, and 2.) Sophia (___) on 13 Aug. 1813 in Tunbridge, VT.[268] She died on 12 May 1844 in Tunbridge, VT.[269] He was also a head of household in Tunbridge, VT, in the 1820 federal census, living next door to his father, where he was a farmer,[270] and in the 1830 federal census.[271] He was probably the “Harvey” Hutchinson living next door to his brother, Amos Hutchinson, in Tunbridge, VT, in the 1850 federal census.[272]

g. Olive Hutchinson, born on 27 Feb. 1789 in VT.[273]

h. John Farnam Hutchinson, born on 27 July 1791 in Tunbridge, VT,[274] married Olive Wright on 10 Mar. 1814 in Norwich, CT.[275] He was living near his brother, Timothy Hutchinson, in Tunbridge, VT, in the 1820 federal census, where he was a farmer,[276] but he was not found in Vermont in the 1850 federal census.

        1107   iv   Abijah Hutchinson, born supposedly on 4 July 1756 in Lebanon, CT,[277] moved to Tunbridge, Orange Co., VT, with his brother-in-law, Elias Curtis, and brothers John and Hezekiah Hutchinson, in ca. 1776.[278] He served in the Revolutionary War aboard the ship Oliver Cromwell in 1777 and 1778.[279] He and his brother John Hutchinson were attacked by raiding Indians in Tunbridge on the early morning on 16 Oct. 1780, taken hostage, and carried to Canada for a year, during which time his health suffered greatly.[280] He married Miriam Farnum, daughter of Bezaleel and Phebe (Kirtland) Farnum, of Killingworth and Salisbury, CT,[281] on 27 Feb. 1783 in Salisbury, CT.[282] She was born on 31 Jan. 1761 in Killingworth, CT,[283] and died on 4 May 1815 in Tunbridge, VT,[284] and he may have remarried.[285] They were living in Tunbridge, Orange Co., VT, in the 1791,[286] 1800,[287] 1810,[288] and 1820 federal censuses, where he was a farmer.[289] They were still living in Tunbridge, VT, in the 1830 federal census, next door to his brother, Hezekiah Hutchinson.[290] In 1835 they moved to Genesee, NY.[291] He was an 83-year-old Revolutionary War Pensioner living in Genesee, Livingston Co., NY, in the 1840 federal census,[292] and he died supposedly on 11 Feb. 1843 in Genesee, Livingston Co., NY.[293] They had children:

a. Sylvia Hutchinson, born ca. 1784 in Tunbridge, VT, died on 14 June 1788 in Tunbridge, VT.[294]

b. James Hutchinson, born on 14 Apr. 1785 in Tunbridge, VT,[295] married Betsy Clements on 27 Mar. 1809 in Tunbridge, VT. She was born on 14 Nov. 1790, and died on 7 Dec. 1854, possibly in Libertyville, Lake Co., IL.[296] He died on 18 Jan. 1863 in Libertyville, IL.[297] They were living in Tunbridge, Orange Co., VT, in the 1830 federal census, near his father,[298] and were probably included in his father’s household in Tunbridge in the 1820 federal census. He was living in Genesee, Livingston Co., NY, in the 1840 federal census.[299]

        1108    v   (Possibly) Elisha Hutchinson,[300] who was living next to Hezekiah Hutchinson and Abijah Hutchinson in Tunbridge, VT, in the 1791,[301] and 1800 federal censuses.[302] An Elisha Hutchinson married Eunice Hide on 1 Oct. 1766 in Lebanon, CT,[303] who may have been this man.
